Amos. Please help.

I have gotten a new Midi Keyboard (the Alesis QX49) and even before on my korg extreme the midi was funky, but worked if i restarted with the midi cables OUT of the SP, and plugged them in after boot.

Now its not working at all. I downloaded the USB UPGRADE, that didn't help. I get sound when in ENTER = PLAY NOTE page, and i get the little black triangle when i press midi. so what now?

only time it works is if i have it set up in midi in a DAW, but i just want the midi keyboard to directly control the SP.

OK, so USB MIDI is working, DIN (regular MIDI cables) is not working?
But... you see the MIDI indicator icon when you send regular DIN MIDI?

On the Master Menu, System Utilities... what Version numbers (VERS:3.x xxx/xx) do you see?

Hi Amos, first of all, thank you for you hard work. I have the same problem with usb/din midi. As I have a midi keyboard connected to the SL and the usb, no midi signal is received by SP, I must disconnect the usb to fix this. I select DIN/USB in and out in the menu. Could you fix this, please?.
PS: I have firmware 3.1 660.

Heya Amos - you seem to be kicking out code all over the place! Thanks for the fast responses on everything. Question - will this Slim USB update also work on a Little Phatty (Stage II)?

There is a Little Phatty USB update as well. Slim update is "v31" and Little Phatty Stage II update is "v32."
The only difference is how the unit is named on your computer when you connect the USB ("Slim Phatty" for Slim, "Little Phatty Stage II" for LP).

Speaking of kicking out code... as I mentioned earlier, for now there is only a Windows-compatible installer for this USB update. There are some technical reasons why it will not work via SysEx Librarian on a Mac, so I am working with another programmer to create a working Mac installer.

I have the same problem with Little Pahtty Stage II, Does the firmware update fix it? Or is there a special update to fix this midi problem?
Amos wrote:ATTENTION ALL:

There is a fix for this bug now. It requires an update to the firmware on the USB board (not the main firmware).

for Windows users, you can download this file to apply the update:

http://seamslikereality.com/moog/Slim_USB_v31.zip

connect USB to your Slim, and launch the file Slim_USB_v31.exe.
type the number corresponding to your Slim Phatty ("usb audio device" under win98/XP) and press Enter to send the update. When it's complete, you should see USB UPGRADED appear on the Slim LCD. you can press Master or Preset to clear this message.

For Mac users: I'm sorry, but it seems like SysEx Librarian is unable to send this file. You need to be able to send the entire file in one USB buffer/packet, and SysEx Librarian does not allow to adjust the buffer size. The default buffer size is too small.

The zip file does include a SysEx file and you are welcome to try it by any means you like; a failure will not cause any problem according to my tests.

You do need to send this update via USB; it won't work to send using a DIN MIDI interface.

I am working with a Mac programmer now to implement an update solution for Mac OSX. Until then, you are welcome to experiment, or use Windows for this update if it's an option... sorry for the inconvience! (and for the bug to begin with, of course)

If you have any questions, ask 'em here.

kind regards,

Amos

i connected my Slim Phatty via USB and can see it listed as an audio device on my windows computer. i ran the EXE file, and the pop up DOS box says it sent but i am getting no confirmation on the Phatty itself as described by amos. i've tried it a number of times, turned everything off and on, and still can get no confirmation that it has updated the USB stuff.

Do you get sound through the headphone jack? If so, is the master output off?

PLEASE HELP AMOS!!! This is bugging me so much. Everything is hooked up right. The only thing not working is midi notes getting sent from moog to ableton or garageband. When i turn nobs on the moog midi signals are picked up, when i write notes in ableton it plays the mood, when i play the keyboard it plays the moog... just no midi notes getting end to ableton that i play on the keyboard.... this is my second moog so i sure hope i don't have to replace this one too :(

I'll help if I can. sounds like this is a Little Phatty and not a Slim, correct?
actually I'm not sure. when you say 'play the keyboard' do you mean the keyboard on a Little Phatty?
how are you connecting MIDI from the Phatty to the computer? what computer OS?
if you don't have any custom presets on the phatty you could do a factory restore, that should fix any midi oddness if midi is mostly-working...
what is the OS version displayed on the master menu, system utitilities page?

slim phatty
i did have presets but reset to factory anyways
mac osx 10.7.3
moog is 3.11
usb to mac to send and receive midi. Midi notes are being sent through usb from mac to the moog, but not from the moog to the mac. And midi is being sent to the moog.

Hey guys. I can't figure out why my MPC 60 (OS 2.02) is not able to play the notes of my Slim Phatty. On the SP, I have gone to the "ENTER = Play Note" page, pressed Cursor, and Enter. It played the sound. I then set up my MPC to Midi control the SP, and when I send Midi, I can see the little MIDI indicator (black triangle) flashing at the bottom left of the LCD. Even with all of this happening, I have no sound when I send MIDI from the MPC.

Before doing all of this, I did the reboot and power cycle without the Midi connected, but it didn't seem to help. I feel like I'm missing something simple... Does anyone know what's going on?
