Minimoog Cabinet Colors
Minimoog Cabinet Colors
I recently purchased my second Classic Minimoog and noticed that the cabinet color is much darker than the Mini that I have had for years.
My new one (serial # 4XXX) is a dark walnut stain, while the Mini that I have had for years (serial # 9XXX) is more of a honey color.
I have also noticed this difference in coloring on Mini's offered on Ebay. Older models are darker while newer models are finished in a more translucent honey color.
Did they change the wood used in the cabinet over the years, or did they just change the stain color?
Since I am going to re-finish my new Mini I supposed that it would be best if I finished it in the color that is proper for the serial number.....
Thanks for any insight!

This was made by an English Carpenter from 10 year old dry cured English Oak.
The original case was dark stained boxwood (I still have the original case if anyone wants to offer me some beer money for it!).
I think he made a very small batch . . maybe 2-3, it came via Adrian at SRS in Bedford UK (who is now making his own monosynth . . the Aurora).
I sold the mini earlier this year . . i didn't want to but i got a considerable amount for it . . I would have sold my Voyager SE #86 and kept the model D but i couldn't get anywhere near what i paid for the Voyager!!!
I'm now looking for another Model D and trying to sell my Voyager . . funny how it goes!

Bet it did too!MC wrote:Yeah that oak is purty. I like good looking hardwoods. I saw a pic of a Hammond A-100 in rosewood, a one-off from the factory. THAT looked sharp.
My A102 is in American Cherry with dreadful French Provincial casework!
PM me with a price on your old mini case, mee3d!

bought a minimoog in the darker color
Hey there, just was trying to figure out if my MiniMoog was supposed to be the darker color. It's serial 5553. Is this range of machines supposed to be that color?
I ask because I am tempted to refinish the case. Is it better to leave it stock, even with it's little dings around the corners from wear and tear? I would actually really love to have a MiniMoog in a particular shade of olive green. Any ideas on how that would affect value?
Thanks for any info, Ian
