I need a second synth...
I need a second synth...
I need a second synth to accompany my slim phatty.
A small desktop (or modular) mostly for kicks/bass..
The minitaur would be perfect, but not sure if I can wait that long..
I LOVE the moog sound!!!!.., starting to think maybe nothing else will do..
I regards of sound, what are my best options??

Macbeth micromac or vortex... But you'll probably need to wait longer than for the minitaur !

doepfer dark energy

Re: I need a second synth...
Guys, I'm taking this risk
What about a nice VA?
I don't mean to choose a VA so that it just imitates an analog synth, but choosing a VA for its own character, interface, possibilities etc.
As an instrument, not as a tool that imitates an instrument.

I can't believe that he just went there...
Seriously though, I was going to suggest something similar. Although, for what you say you need, why not get a drum machine? That'd definitly help for kicks. As far as bass goes, IDK how much cheaper you're going to get then the Minitaur.

Re: I need a second synth...
Ive just gone through every possible youtube video on the subject.., buuuuuuuut, I dont know..
Nothing quite sounds like a moog.
Its when you have a little bit of release on the deep kicks and get a "bassline-kick" going.. lots off resonance in the lower register.. OH MAMA!
I need it to be very hand-on-tweakable. I feel a little short handed from time to time..
VA is evil.. The phatty has a soul! End of story.
I would`ve loved to make a small macbeth modular though.. Damn the money!

Might I suggest MFB Kraftzwerg ? Small desktop modular, 3 VCOs with sync and pulse width, 1 low pass four poles ladder filter (cloned Moog), 2 lfos, 2 envelopes, 1 VCA. Surprisingly great sounding and versatile. Its envelopes are more than fast enough for kicks and percussive sounds. The filter even has the Minimoog's filter feedback external in boost trick already hardwired to external input, for powerful bass sounds.
Least expensive integrated modular around. Hand made in Germany. I own one, and it can stack up to my Minimoog D pretty darn well !

You don't need a modular, check out the video that Ken has just uploaded. This is the 3 Osc. Micromac prototype.Rabalder wrote:I would`ve loved to make a small macbeth modular though.. Damn the money!

Re: I need a second synth...
If the poster said they "need" another synth and love Moogs, I'm assuming they simply want more Moog voices.
They need a bass or more voices available when they're sequencing maybe. I'm guessing here.
But if he's already familiar with his Moog, staying compatible with items from the same manufacturer might be wise and a Minitaur might be ideal.
A SEM would definitely offer a completely different sound pallet, but could complicate things in terms of patching and placement.
So I think if the poster is a novice and wants Moogs, the Minitaur would be right, but if he's seriously pursuing varied analog synth sequencing and expects to expand via mono voiced instruments, the SEM would definitely sound totally different and be a great compliment to the Moog.
Some really nice "vintage" music has been recorded when used together. (Jan Hammer, Larry Fast, etc.)
Moogs and SEMs are like ying and yang.

I use a MacBeth. I waited almost a year for it too. Worth every cent.fyvewytches wrote:You don't need a modular, check out the video that Ken has just uploaded. This is the 3 Osc. Micromac prototype.Rabalder wrote:I would`ve loved to make a small macbeth modular though.. Damn the money!

Music can Name the Unnamable and Communicate the Unknowable.
'I am... everything is... changed... they're calling... your face... interwoven... who is...' Patient mumbles inaudibly to a tune (sounds like 'Thanks for the memory).

Re: I need a second synth...
Maybe I should just get another phatty..
Ill check with my local dealer and see if I can rent a phatty until the minitaur is out or something..
I suppose Id rather loose a few bucks than buying the wrong synth. I can even buy one and resell it.
Hmm.. Yes. This is good thinking..
Definitely on to something here.
Thanks for all the feedback.
