mp201 weird behaviour

Post by Rabalder » Sun Dec 04, 2011 7:36 pm

Ive never gotten my expression pedal to reach ZERO, its always stuck at 130 (+/-).

But today I notised something odd. (not sure if its from the last update)

When I move the pedal slowly backwards, it goes all the way down to around 20. This is before the pedal touches the bottom. When I continue to push the pedal all the way down it starts to count UP again. And ends up at around 130.

:?:

Its like the zero-point on a theremin...

Rabalder,
For starters did you do a factory restore (save your programs first) and then run the pedal calibration routine?

Next guess is a dirty / bad potentiometer. If it's under warranty, see if you have a local authorized shop. I've not had my MP open, so I don't know if it's a sealed pot or not. If it's open some contact cleaner may do the trick. All the same if your not familiar with elec. innards I'd leave it to someone who is. You said it never reaches zero, is this since you bought the unit?

Never gotten it lower than 130. (Unless the "zero-point issue" has been there all along.)
The pot seems to work fine. Its very precise. Never had an issue exept for this.

I suspect maybe the calibration doesnt work..? Never has..?

I could open it though (i have experience). I just dont like opening up moog gear.

Well, if the pot seems good, no need to open it. Have you tried recal'ing and moving the pedal through it's sweep slowly? Also, press down firmly when you are at the end of travel.

What do you mean by recaling?

Utility mode Menu -> Utilities : Calibrate Footpedal

Page 46 and 47 of the manual.

After I calibrated, the toe-value worked fine but the heel value still went down to zero, then up again to around 100.
I put some duct tape on the rubber-thing under the pedal.. Works fine now.
Weird though..

The pot is probably a little off..
