Lunar Seas by Camel

Post by mooghead » Sat Dec 03, 2011 8:49 am

Hello everybody,

I recently bought a Mahogany / Electric Blue Voyager and I'm now getting to understand its workings after 5 years of the Little Phatty...

I've always loved the song Lunar Seas by Camel where the sinth solo is beautiful and (I guess) it should be a Minimoog.

Any suggestion on how to "build" the Lunar Seas sound from scratch on a Voyager?

Thanks!

Yeah, it's a mini
On first pass
(position=as on a clock)

Glide = ON
Glide Rate = 3 (value)

Mod Wheel Bus
Source-OSC 3
Destination-Filter
Shaping-
Amount-6 (value)
Wheel- 1/2

Osc 1 - Octave = 2' - Wave = 4 sawtooth(value)
Osc 2 -
Osc 3 - Octave = 32' - Wave = 0 triangle(value)
For OSC 3 tun off kybd cntrl & set the freq. range to lo

Mixer Osc 1 = 10
Mixer Osc 2 = 0
Mixer Osc 3 = 0

Filter cutoff = 1K (value)
Spacing = 0 (value) (ie, straight up)
Resonance = 3 (value)
KB Cont. Amt. = 10 (value)

Filter Mode set to Dual Low Pass

Filter Envelope: A = 12(position) - D = 3(position) - S = 9(position) - R = 2(position) - Amt to filter = 3(value)

Amp Envelope: A = 10 (position) - D = 11 (position) - S = 1 (position) - R = 2(position)

This is a rough start. Osc 3 is modulating the filter with a slow triangle, it's been awhile since I heard the album version, I listened to a live take on youtube. Bardens is also adding in some noise to the VCF mod - on the Model D Mini there is a mix pot for blending OSC 3 and the noise as a mod source. Have a go at it and post your results. Great band, up there with PFM in the obscure progressive files.
