Let me hear your MF-103´s!

Post by MBlom » Thu Sep 22, 2011 11:31 am

I think a MF-103 will be the fooger to get next month, but I´m not quite sure. There´s no way of trying it where I live so I thought I´d ask you to post some clips of your phaser sounds. The youtube vids I find are almost all clean bass and guitar and since that´s not really what mine will be fed, but bassynth and synths instead, I´d like to hear it with synths through it. I´m a big fan of Daft Punk so I´d looooove to hear some deep hollow, slowly morphing sounds.

Shoot!

I use mine on bass ALOT.

Barcode babble has it running all the way through, you hear it really sound huge when the distortion kicks in.
Neon Tangerine has it running all the way through.

Here are a couple though you may have heard these examples:

The phaser is featured more slowly in the first video and experimented with more in the second.

Here it kicked in around 3:24

You should also consider the Murf, and there are videos of the T3 with the Murf on my channel also.

There's one section where the phaser really makes the synth have a violin like texture on the Snow Sequence. It's about the warmest and creamiest phaser that I've heard, and youtube has a lot of side by side demos....the various Ehx and MXR and other versions don't have the same character as the 103. It's a fabulous unit.

I COULD do without a bit of that bass boost that one of the other members was talking about. If you are not careful in your mix it will cause some clipping.

The Murf does some phasing that is very unique also in addition to it's other features. Really, you just have to get them all....at LEAST one of all is what happens.

I uploaded a track to soundcloud for you. The MuTron Bi-Phase is robably one of the one pedals that is competition to the 103. People like it because it has 2 LFOs, thus the Bi-phase. What I did was I combined 4 LFO's and created
QuadraPhasing Bleeps and Bloops

THe 102 and 103 together is amazing.

Yo Pantherairsoft. I listened to those songs on your link. I really like what your doing. Keep up the good work.
I'm curious how you got your bass tone on Neon Tangerine. You said the MF-103 is throughout the whole song but how do you get that distortion and "womp, womp" sound? What other pedals are used if you don't mind me asking?

All the Micromoog parts on this tune are through the MF-103:

That track is quite complex...

Bass - Boss OC2 - Tech21 Red Ripper (With lots of top end dialed in) - Moog Low Pass Filter (Cut off being swelled by expression) - EBS Unichorus - Moog 12-stage Phaser - Delay - Amp

The track is intro -a-b-a-b-a-b-outro

On A, I use the set up above, swelling the cutoff on beat 1 so the sound runs from sub to fizz. B I leave the LPF fully open and play octaves, pushing the last note up 2 octaves on a whammy pedal.

The intro and outro uses the same stuff as A, however, as well as swelling the LPF cutoff I'm also feeding the LPF resonance with a triangle wave so when the LPF is cutoff is pulled back you get a deep tremolo sounding, however when you start to the open the cutoff up, my tweeter reproduces the 'whale noises' and blips you hear also.

I've used the MF-103 on the main verse-guitar on "Friendboat".
