I run my 4 string bass through a Murf and was wondering if its suppose to sound a bit quieter than other effects. WHen i disengage the murf my bass sounds quite loud. I have my output all the way up, and the drive under half, or else it will distort.
is this right?
cheers, matt
Murf isn't very loud

Hey Matt, is your bass active? My only guess is that your signal might be too hot going into the effect. If your bass is active, you might want to try turning down the volume on the bass so that you can turn the gain up a bit and get a better balance between the input and output levels on the MURF. Also, you might want to turn down the bass EQ on your bass as well. Personally, I prefer passive basses with effects, with a preamp at the end of the chain...

hi hieronymous,
I'm not sure if I replied to your last from ages ago, so sorry about that. It's been super busy nearing the end of Senior year...4 days and I'm on to Art School in Baltimore.
I decided on the Murf (as you can tell). I love the thing...such a new approach to music.
I play an Ibanez SR3000, active preamp, i think passive pickups. So If I turn down the volume on the bass, and turn the bass and treble boost down, and turn up the drive on the MURF, it should be fine?
Hope all is well
Cheers, Matt

Hey Matt! Congratulations on the MURF purchase!
I hope what I suggested works. Active preamps can put out crazy output volumes. I run my passive basses with their volumes set at full output for the most part. If I compare that with my basses with active preamps, the active ones are usually set around 5 to match.
So I'm wondering if having the output from your bass too hot isn't allowing the MURF to work at its full potential? \
My Moogerfoogers usually have their drive at around 11 o'clock and output level at around 2 or 3 o'clock.
Also, you might want to put a fresh battery in your bass - old batteries can create issues too...
Good luck!
