Midi hub for LP?

Post by anoteoftruth » Fri Feb 26, 2010 6:13 pm

Hey,

Just curious for those of you who are like me and also use their Little Phatty as a midi controller.. (I use mine to control the RME)

I was just wondering, do any of you use anything like a midi hub? Where you can input the midi from your LP, and have multiple midi outputs? I have'nt come across anything like it yet, but I'm planning on getting a few more rack units soon, and I want to use the LP to control all of them, instead of either 1. having to get another controller for each, or 2. Keep plugging and unplugging midi cables all the time.

If anyone has any recommendations, it'd be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like you are looking for a thru box or something more sophisticated with mapping/filtering capabilities.

Some of the M-Audio USB interfaces have "USB / Midi Thru" buttons on them. I have the 2x2 and it works great either as stand alone, when hooked to Logic, or with Midi Patchbay (a Mac program). It's not rack mount but is low cost. If you see yourself boning up on Midi, get the 4x4 or bigger.

When I started with the Analog gear and committed to the Old School, I didn't think I would have much of a need for Midi. Now I've got the Midi Murf, MP201, a Little Phatty and Taurus Pedals on order. So much for no-Midi... it's all good...

Good. I didn't even realize it was a Canadian company. I got my merger from zzounds in New Jersey.

I use a Motu MIDI Express 128 that sends and receives MIDI from all my gear and brings it to and from Logic and Live. The 128 is not standalone though, it's usb powered.
So this thing only plays one note?

Hi Klopfgeist. I was wondering if you've noticed any buzz when using a MIDI Express. Myself and a few others have experienced a buzzing noise when connecting the Phatty via USB. That noise seems to be caused by a grounding issue with some computers and the Phatty USB connection. (The noise seems to go away if you use MIDI Din cables.) I fear that the MIDI Express, as it connects via a USB port, may have a similar issue.

Nope no hum, and I have cables plugged into all of the ports. I run the usb out into a powered hub though, so maybe your computer isn't supplying enough power?

The usb hum bug is officially a Laptop power supply issue. Not saying you wont get a hum from a desktop, but the Stage II usb port has been successefully hooked up to desktops without issue.

Good to hear you're not getting USB noise with the USB MIDI hub. Thanks for the heads-up!

That quatra 4 is only 60 bucks! Man would be nice to sequence a couple of synths from 1 midi signal!
