unable to decide which cabinet to buy
unable to decide which cabinet to buy
Hi folks,
I want to buy a voyager, but i don't have the chance to see one in real life, because the local music store doesn't sell it (i have to order it at a mail-order-house). So i have to decide blind between different kinds of wood, and i have to relay on the pictures in the net. Very hard!
I like wood and I would like my synth too look like wood, also my flat has wooden floor and doors. But the wood on thouse pictures of the Performer Stage Edition looks too dark for my taste, in contrast to the pictures of the Old School, where I like the color of the wood very much! What kind of wood is the old school made off?
Has anyone seen a mahagoni in real life? It would be also one of my choices if it does not look too red.
I also like the pictures of the white whashed, though i think it wouldn't fit to me, because it looks very clean, and i'm a chaotic freak with long hair and broken trousers.
The electric blue is okay, but for me it doesn't look moogy enough.
Any suggestions or photos?
I'm really confused, i would have ordered my voyager weeks ago, but i can't decide which to buy ...

from the wikipedia:
from the wikipedia:
he OS is sold with only one wood panelling option, "traditional ash". However, a few "limited edition" models were housed in white wash cabinets. As of January 15th, 2009, the Voyager Old School has been discontinued.
Re: unable to decide which cabinet to buy
I have a mahogany Voyager Select with blue lights. The mahogany is absolutely beautiful. It is a very deep rich brown with very little red in it. I bought it sight unseen and I am very happy its looks.psicolor wrote: Has anyone seen a mahagoni in real life? It would be also one of my choices if it does not look too red.
Moog Voyager Select, VX-351, CP-251, MP-201, MF-101, MF-102, MF-103, MF-107,Taurus 3, Korg M3-88, Nord Rack 2, Ensoniq SD1, Oberheim Matrix 1000, Digi002, too many soft synths
You can check all light and wood color combinations on the following page : http://www.moogmusic.com/selectseries/
There you can also find the name of the light and wood color.
I have a cherry colored Voyager Signature Edition myself (they have no backligt)...i really like the color of the wood.

Well keep in mind that the color of the wood will look different in real life. THe puctures of the Ash Lunar looked darker than what I got. Mine is very yellow and doesn't really look like ash to me lolol.
If you want my opinion, look for the best price first then choose your cabinet color. Novamusik.com has some of the greatest prices available for moog gear that Ive seen. They can give you the NE edition which will let you choose a cabinet as well as custom switches and lighting and jack inputs.
THey have a whitewash Old School, and Ash as well as whitewash theremins.
THe mahogany is available only from sweetwater. Thats the one that I wanted, the M lunar, but i settled for an ash because they sold it to me with the vx351 for 2999, as opposed to sweetwarers 3295 for that select model. That model is the prettiest looking model in my opinion.

A note with regard to price - all music gear is negotiable. I've never known a dealer to not be able to be talked down slightly - especially for something large. Any major dealer always has at least 10% to move and will always match another advertised price. So if you see one someplace but it is higher priced than another - talk them down.
When I picked up my Voyager Performer Edition I was able to get a killer deal on it because the guy wanted to show his manager he could sell high-end synthesizers. It kinda freaked out some of the people in the store because they thought they were going to get in trouble for ringing it up so low

Minimoog Voyager Performer Edition + LP Stage II + Sub37 + Model D reissue + CP-251 + VX-351
I purchased mine at a german shop named "musicstore" for 2800 EUR. I'm very happy with this deal!
Normally I like to buy my equipment at Thomann (a VERY big german music shop), but since about half a year they (especially the synth department) were very unfriendly to me. Maybe they don't want to sell stuff...

Hello
Looking at http://www.moogmusic.com/selectseries the picture of the cherrywood is too dark and seems to be very brown. I don't like this picture because the difference is so huge with my Voyager SE cherrywood. Mine is more "orange" than brown...
Prime NL, you too have a cherrywood cabinet, could you tell us if yours is closer than orange or brown?
