Arpeggiator

Post by Matt Friedman » Tue Jan 06, 2009 4:09 pm

Is there any way to edit the arpeggiator patterns on the LPS2? Not directly, I'm sure, but through sysex? I don't find the patterns really all that useful and, surprising to say, think that it could really use a straight up/down cycle.

You can change the pattern directly in the menu. See the manual for exactly how, as it is very involved. Perhaps someone more familiar with OS 2.00 can chime in if more details are needed? :?

Well... The problem is that I can see how to select between three different pre-set patterns [Up, DN, Ordered] and three different modes. Is there a way to create a different pattern. For example, instead of a one-octave UP arp of an Am chord going:

A3-C3-E3-A4-C4-E4

It could go:

A3-C3-E3-C3

The problem is that I really want the arpeggiator to play without going to the octave when set to one octave.

Hmm...sounds like an update for OS 2.1. That would be a most useful feature. Amos, is this a possibility?

I think an editing screen would tax the Phatty's brain, but I wonder if patterns could be updated/changed through a sysex dump. Just sayin'

That could work as well. I don't believe that such a feature is supported right now. The software in the LP would need to be modified to allow such a thing. Great idea! I haven't seen Amos here lately...I'm sure he would agree to such a software addition.

Maybe I don't understand what you want, but here's what I think should work.

1. Set Octaves to 0, Pattern to Up, and Mode to Back-Forth.
2. Finger the three notes (A3, C3, and E3).
3. I think you should hear A3-C3-E3-C3-A3-C3-E3-C3- . . .

Hope that helps,
Bryan

I guess the problem is that I want the arp to play a sequence of four notes when I give it three. Say, from an Am chord:

A3-C3-E3-C3 :||

I guess that would be an UP/DOWN pattern.

As it is, if you give it three notes, it will play just those three notes:

A3-C3-E3 :||

That's not a problem when using the Arp to just play a chord backing, but it would be helpful for using the Arp a a bassline accompaniment if I could specify the number of notes in the sequence, or do an UP/DOWN thing.

That, I guess, would require an OS rev, and that's a biggie, I know.

I guess the best thing would be to key in four notes to GET four notes.

Not if you set Mode to Back-Forth. That will give you the pattern you want.

Not really. Moog listens. They will deliver if enough people show interest in such a feature. Of course, a sequencer would be best for this scenario. I think the sequencer is in the works for the next OS or the one after. :D

Duh...

Okay... I apologize for the brain fart. I was at the AHA conference this weekend. It must have killed some brain cells.

Many thanks.

You still have brain cells?! Man, I could use some of those after tonight. The acute psych ward I work at is now smoke free, and the patients are causing me to lose what brain cells I may have had. I never had many to begin with. :lol:

i gave up on getting something like this to work, and i just use my laptop to send sequenced stuff to it. something like that might tax the ole phattys brain, but im no expert on those sort of things.

there will definitely be some updates to the LP arpeggiator this year, and a step sequencer is not out of the question although it's just a notion at this point.

Definitely in the cards is full MIDI CC implementation for the arpeggiator, so you'll be able to stop and start the arp, change the rate, and even edit the octave and pattern settings on the fly via MIDI. Should be pretty fun.

Sorry I haven't been around lately; it's been super busy here. I'm trying to catch up a little bit, before I leave for the NAMM show this weekend.

If anyone else is coming to NAMM, be sure to stop by booth 6100 and say hi!
