analog delay for the people

Post by pat » Mon Jul 21, 2003 8:59 pm

hi,

I was wondering if we can help inspire Bob Moog to find a way to remanufacture the "bucket brigade" chips. Can Moog just manufacture the chip itself? Also, with how much demand there is could the price be brought down more comparable with the other moogerfoogers?
It could be reissued as a different moogerfooger so that the "collectors" can still feel special but so that meat and potatoes musicians can have potatoes. How about the MF-8?

Besides, think about the next 100 years. If there is a computer chip that creates a sound valuable to musicians that industry is leaving behind, who better to preserve the existence of the chip than for moog to begin manufacturing it?

This is beyond collectible memorabilia, this is about musical instruments!

it would be lovely, but the cost of producing such a chip in relatively small numbers (why do you think they're not made anymore? cause relatively few people have a need for them!) would probably abdicate the benefits of having it. the price would still be astronomical.

as un-moog as it sounds, i'd think the money would be better spend on refining digital delay.

There's now way. They only had 1000 MF-104's and think of how long it took them to sell out. The market just isn't there.

I was talking to someone at moog a few weeks ago about the Analog Delay and was advised that they are currently working on a new one which should be out later this year!

Sorry, but it's true..check with Mike Adams @ Moog. A new delay is in the works. There is a demand for a good delay, used moogerfooger analog delays are going for over $700 on ebay. The new one won't be using the same hard to find chip and probably won't cost as much..hopefully.

The MF-104 Analog Delay is going for $1,000 on ebay right now. I don't think I'm picking it up. Still, I want one really bad.

I wonder if the new delay will sound as good? What's the difference in the chips?

I bought TWO MF-104s before they sold out.

It was later that I found out that the Voyager is stereo.

Nothing like touchpad modulated filter spacing S&H noises through two MF104s. MMmmmmm...

Hi Mel,

I will also be picking one up from the Swedish distributer.

Could you tell me how the transaction went between you and the Swedish distributer? Just so that I have a reference. I'm guessing that you also don't live in Sweden.

http://www.elmelidmusik.se is the place to be.
There you will find the last new MF-104.

Mine arrived today brand new in an unopened box. The box also contained, besides the MF-104 & the manual, a Big Briar news letter from fall/winter 2000!

When I contacted Elmelid Musik, they told me they had only 2 units left. So now there should only be one left. They were very helpfull and the transaction went fast & without a problem.

BTW, I like the MF-104 a lot! Have been playing with it for the last hour and I can say that it's got quite a unique character for a delay unit. Very inspiring.

I hear ya! I have two myself and have had a stellar time running my Voyager through them as well. Just picked myself up a 70's EMS Synthi AKS which also has stereo outs. Now try THAT one through dual MF-104's...incredible!
