Problem with second osc?

Post by opus_one » Mon Jun 28, 2004 4:19 pm

I bought a second hand prodigy, i like the sound a lot but i suspect a problem with the second oscilator. i´ll admit that i´m a novice to a real analog synth. But if turn down the first oscilator, the second oscilator only makes a really fainth sound. I suspect that the second osc should make the same sound as the first so that you can combine them to make a fat dual osc sound (Detune them etc.) Can somebody confirm this, so i know if it needs to be fixed. Thanks..

Try this:

- Set up a sound you hear the oscillator 1
- Set the oscillator 1 and two both to sawtooth wave
- First check the setting of the Sync switch on in the middle of the oscillator 1 controls. It should be set to OFF.
- The volume of the oscillator 2 is turned on to something between 5 to 10 in the mixer section?
- Is the octave range set to the same value as oscillator 1?
- is the detune set to 12'o Clock?

Still no oscilator sound?

Then you have a faulty oscillator 2 and need a repair job done. Or better tell the seller and get your money back :-(
keep on turning these Moog knobs

No, stll no sound out of the second osc. :( I've already tried most settings you supplied, and tried everything. Maybe it will make sound when i throw it of the stairs :). Naah won't do that but i bought it on a sound convention and i lost the adress of the guy who sold it to me. I'm so screwed with this deal because i paid to much for a good working one, and now it's faulty to. Shitt!! But i will check out what it cost to repair and look good into my papers if i can find the adress so i can kick the vendor's but. And ask for a refund. The *****. But thanks for you're help, it's apreciated.

Before you kick the s**t out of the vendor or the Prodigy, try gently taking the white plastic "Fast Action" switch cover off the Osc2 footage (16' 6' 4' etc...) switch and gently move the switch underneath between its footage positions. Repeat with the Osc2 waveform switch,

The switches are directly mounted on to the circuit board, and are prone to disconnecting and dry-jointedness. It could be a very cheap repair.
