VOYAGERS, KEYBOARD STANDS & 2ND TIER PHOBIA!!!

Post by Keyboard Komuso » Fri May 23, 2008 10:16 am

With the newest arrival to my studio, A Prophet 08, I am encountering space issues. It's a fantastic sounding board, really compliments my Voyager beautifully! The 2 belong together. However, I am having a really hard time putting my Voyager on the second tier of my keyboard stand. It is a heavy beast! Putting it on the first level is not an option as I can't tilt the control panel up due to space restrictions with my stand and when left flat, half the panel is hidden under the 2nd tier, even at full height. The Prophet, being much thinner and narrow works better on the bottom. So do any of you Moogers keep your beloved Voyagers on the second level? Any fears of coming home to a Moog on the floor? My stand is rated for 75 lbs on the second tier, but it seems to wobble quite a bit while playing.

I use a Quiklok Z-726 stand, with my Voyager on top of an Andromeda. It works great and has been very stable. You will always get some wobble on the top tier, there really is no way to avoid it short of having a welded (but completely unadjustable) stand.

it should be fine, I have mine on the 3rd tier of my stand and it has been fine for the last 3 years.

I got this one:

It's nice, but I was not comfortable with the Voyager on the top, plus I mostly work seated in the studio. I ended up removing the second tier and moving the Voyager to the 1st tier. Not the solution I was hoping for. But I like having the voyager at a seated working height with the panel fully upright. This means I can not use the second tier. The fully extended panel would get in the way of a keyboard on the second tier.

I talked to the shop I bought it from, who recommended drilling holses in the second tier arms so I could raise it higher. But again, I am not comfortable with placing a keyboard on a "hacked tier" directly above the Voyager.

I've been to post here for a while to ask what others are using.

Yes, I can relate. I'm not too keen on the idea of the Voyager on the 2nd tier either. My lack of faith in stands started when a 2 tier x-frame holding my Trinity and MS2000 came crashing down! The MS landing on top of the Trinity. I never used an X frame again. I much prefer Z style stands. I have a single Z frame and was thinking of getting another and setting it higher and some how sliding it's legs inderneath the first creating a super solid 2 tier of sorts (did that make sense to anyone?)

Second the Ultimate. My EB lives downstairs from the U-20. The support arm makes a nice support for the Littlelite.

I just bought two stands from Jaspers a Keyboard Rack 170-4-145B and a Keyboard Rack 170-4-120B. They are great!

Thanks EricK for the compliments on my site, and to all for the stand info. Hearing that others use the 2nd tier puts my mind at ease. I have a very solid QuickLok. I think I'm just gonna go for it.

I do have a Quik Lok, which I don't trust that much - Voyager is on the second tier and it wiggles a bit. For maximum stability check this out:

Made of iron, it weighs a ton, but it can also carry a ton :D Maybe, I need to build myself another one..
