Anyone owned a tape echo and a MF Delay Pedal?
I own a Rexer tape Echo and have been quite tempted recently to sell it and put the money towards the MF delay pedal. Is there any advantage to keeping the Tape Echo?

the moogerfooger analog delay will not have nearly as much high frequency content as your tape echo...two very different sounding effects. If you use and like your tape delay a lot I would NOT reccommend selling it! Of course I love my roland space echo but for live playing and certain sounds in the studio the MF is real hard to beat.
I forgot to say that I will eventually buy the MF delay either way, it is just a matter of saving up enough money (if I don't sell something else). I can't get enough of those CV Jacks on the MF series, so it drives me crazy thinking about the possiblilities of the MF Delay.
I didn't think the high frequency would be better on my tape, that is interesting. Thanks for the feedback!

I agree with what other people here are saying. I haven't heard the brand of tape delay that you have - I have a Space Echo, and they are both very distinctive! redeyeflight is right about the high end - the MF-105 sounds muffled in comparison to the Space Echo. Also, I don't like the sound of the MF when the echoes are feeding back - the Space Echo sounds so much smoother. (I should point out that I have the original MF-105, but judging by what I've read here, other than delay times being longer on the new ones I don't think there's much difference.)

I have an old one (RE-201), but thanks for the heads up! I had no idea there was a new one!nathan wrote:are we talking about the new spaceecho?

I bought the new Boss RE-20 Space Echo & it sounds spectacular. They say its as close as the 201 as it can get. Luscious & mates perfectly with the 104Z. Recommended.

Heh, dunno yet. I've never heard the original unit so I'm not sure how subtle it is. I've only played with the RE-20 for about 10 min & was lost in space I couldn't tell. I'll give it a proper run through.

I didn't know there was a new Space Echo either. Too bad there isn't any tape in it.
Anyway, if you were wondering what my beast looks like, here is a pic.

aaah, so your rexer is somewhat new correct? Looks to be a replica of the original space echo. BTW, I'm pretty sure that the new roland space echo is just a digital emulator like the line 6 delay. The line 6 is awesome and I've owned one for years but it definatley doesn't sound anything like my echoplex or my space echo. The moogerfooger analog delay definitely has a sound of it's own as do the space echos...I'd guess the rexer is pretty similar to the old school space echos and the the new space echo is probably pretty close to the line 6, whereas the moogerfooger is really unique sounding...I haven't heard another analog delay that has a smiliar sound.
