The new expression pedal

Post by Spank » Wed Jul 11, 2007 10:59 pm

anyone have this? itlooks pretty slick but how does it compare to the roland EV-5 expression pedal? i paid a pretty penny for it and to find out there's something alot better out there for a cheaper price is going to bum me out =/

just got two of them and they are much much better than the ep-1. are they as good as the ev-5? Well, they're different. More like an ernie ball vol pedal then the ev-5. I'd say they're really great except that they have an attached cable (which some may like but I'd rather have one that I could plug any cable into).

so would you say that the new EP-2 is better than the EV-5? or should i just spend my money elsewhere? because i've got an EV-5 and i'm considering whether i should get the EP-2 or not for my LPF

i would say that is it neither better or worse, certainly different. The ev-5 has a smoother feel and the ep-2 has a larger sweep. both are pretty sturdy and both have attached cords and a minimum control knob on the side...i think this one comes down to personal preference and which one feels better to you. personally i like the ep-2 more because the control is a bit more precise but that's just me...

the ep2 (as well ass the ep1) seems quite high though. the ev5 seems lower.
i would prefer it that your heel could touch the floor in \ (so not _ ) position and you dont have to lift your whole foot up to put it on or off the pedal.

ew! I hate things with cables permanently affixed to them....give me jacks and patch cables please.......just imagine if wall warts were permanently attached to devices, we wouldn't stand for it! why do we stand for monitors with VGA cords permanently attached and expression pedals with quarter inch cables permanently attached???.....
I demand a revolution......it begins here!

Somebody could make a killing off expression pedals if they made a tough one for less than an EV-5.
I use Ev-5's only because there's not much else and the Moog ones (or whatever company really makes them) ALWAYS break. i have gone through 5 of them in a few short months. that's ridiculous.

I have two EP-2s, and they couldn't be any better. As long as they're looked after, I don't see them breaking.

i just got my freqbox in the mail. and this thing is nice!
i tried my crappy zoom xp-1 expr.pedal on it, but didnt work.
so i need another one i guess.
doesnt just any pot work when it's on the tip?

which pedals would work then;

- Moog EP-1
- Moog EP-2 40,-
- Boss EV-5 60,-

I like my EP-2s better than my EV-5, but the EV-5 might suit you better if you want something lower to the ground. From memory, an old Zoom pedal of mine was either wired differently or uses a log pot.

Moog puts instructions for using expression pedals in the back of every manual. +5V is supplied at the ring, the tip is connected to the pot wiper, and the sleeve to ground. 50k or 100k linear tapers are the best.

Interestingly, I read in the Freqbox manual that it is possible to plug in TRS expression pedals and TS patch cables simultaneously. This isn't the case for any of their other pedals, so they must have added some diodes or something.
