I found this thread because I have the exact same issue, although I'm currently running Cubase 14. I own both a Subsequent 37 and a Minitaur – and both editors give me this exact same issue. I can move a knob (such as filter cutoff) and hear the synth react in real time, and thus draw automation in write mode. However when I go to play back, even though the automation is written, the plugin does not move and the synth does not change.
I also have Logic and Ableton on this computer (mac), where I tested the AU plugin and automation works fine when playing back. So it appears this an issue with the VST plugin. Unfortunately for me I prefer working in Cubase, so I am hoping that they will update the plugin to address this issue. The editor is so close to making it a perfect hybrid ecosystem of hardware+software, allowing me to use my live synths as if a plugin, but without automation that aspect isn't so useful.
For now I can confirm that CC data recorded in the midi region (key editor) does work, but this defeats the purpose of the editor panel and ease of automation, which I find much nicer to do on the track lanes.
I submitted a ticket to support, but based on what it sounds like around here, I will be lucky if I hear anything back. If I do, I will report here.
If anyone is able to share the VST2 version or 1.1.0 version for Mac, please do! Although I am not certain it will work for me, since the release notes say 1.1.1 added Apple Silicon support which is what I need. But it would be nice to try to see if it will work.
