Problems with the sub phatty editor

Post by kirre777 » Wed Jul 17, 2024 3:44 pm

All of a sudden the editor for my sub phatty has stopped working. What happens is that when you click on the vst, a message comes up that says “The Editor cannot connect to the hardware. Please connect your Sub Phatty and set MIDI In and Out on the setup page”.

This worked really well until a few days ago and unfortunately I don't really remember when it worked, but I have definitely used it in May/June.

I run windows 11 on a custom built asus proart550 with amd processor and Live 12 as daw. I usually run the editor via USB.

The editor works just as it should in the standalone version. It is only the vst that gives the error message.

Things I have tried;

* Change the USB cable and port on the computer. Have usb sockets both front and back of the computer. Tested these and different cables.

* Tested running the editor via the e-mu8xl interface instead.

* Reinstalled the editor.

* Reinstalled the midi driver. It shows up in device manager just as it should.

* Tested in reaper 7 and reason 11. No difference. However, I have never run the vst in either reason or reaper before so I don't know if it ever worked with these daw's.

* Also tested in Live 12 beta but no difference.

Anyone have thoughts on this?

It's actually fine to use midi cc if you want to automate something but I really like the editor and especially the patch library.

Check MIDI settings in DAW. Ensure that the MIDI In and Out settings in Live 12 are correctly configured to communicate with your Sub Phatty. Sometimes, these settings can get reset or changed.

Thanks for the reply.

I double-checked the settings. In Live I use Moog Sub Phatty In and Moog Sub Phatty Out as midi in/outputports. These two ports are disabled in options -> settings -> Link, tempo & midi.

I have the same settings in the standalone editor which works fine. And I'm not running the standalone editor when live is running.

Since the standalone version works but the VST doesn't, the problem likely lies in the communication between the VST and the DAW rather than with the hardware itself. Windows 11 might be putting the USB ports into a power-saving mode, which could disrupt communication with the Sub Phatty. Go to Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus controllers > USB Root Hub > Properties > Power Management and uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."

I tried this, but no difference.
