Mini Mod filter .....unexpected behaviour.

Post by Rarecomponentadsr » Tue Dec 31, 2019 1:36 pm

Today I received the Mini Mod Mini-Moog filter module by AJH synths and have been giving it a try out.
It’s brand new, all works well however there is an issue.

I noticed while trying out the various functions a noticeable low “thump”
associated with the Emphasis Control.
I’m using an Oakley VCO (similar to MinimMoog Oscillator ) saw output
into the Filter and out via VCA.

With Frequency set at mid way, when any note is depressed I hear a distinct feint low thud ..turning the Emphasis control from fully CCW to mid way the timpani like thuds increase significantly to a point where their distracting.

It’s not my system ...all checked and okay...the problem only appears when the Mini Mod is used. I have other Euro modules running and there’s no problem with any other modules.

I’ve checked all controls on the Mini Mod and all work fine apart from the
deep thuds that seem to emanate from the Emphasis Control.
At fully CCW the thumps are hardly noticeable ..as soon as the Emphasis control is turned the thuds become more and more pronounced.

Could this be a supply voltage problem ? Or is this indeed the way the Mini Moog filter operates ? I simply dont know.

This might be a CV bleed through of this filter. But as I only know the original Moog filters built into Moogs.
keep on turning these Moog knobs

Sequence:
Prodigy * minimoog '79 * Voyager * MF102 * MF103 * MF104z * MP201 * Taurus 3 * Minitaur * Sub Phatty * MF105 * Minimoog 2017+ MUSE * One 16

Thanks for your reply, it could be CV I can’t rule anything out ..
I’ve also written to AJH with the problem but could do with some experienced opinions.

The MiniMod module was fine...it didn’t have any faults.
The problem had something to do with power supply ..or power supply connector..as yet I don’t exactly know what but changing the power supply cured the problem.
