latest firmware update messed up my phatty

Post by leonnine » Mon Jun 24, 2019 5:11 pm

i updated may slim phatty to latest firmware and its messed up the synth.

the tuning is now way off (around a semi tone) and drifts more.

the filter dial is now erratic and the light doesn’t stay locked to the dial and jumps about. doesn't matter what its controlling and its only that dial.

none of this happened on the 1.(something) firmware that i originally had on synth.

does anyone have any access to older firmware versions so i can go back to how it was?

i can’t find older versions online. seems like moog don't make them available

thanks
Leon

Did you download and use the newer boot loader, v1.1 I think it is?

Just checked, and it’s v1.1. Without it, you can’t update the firmware from 1.XX TO 3.21. You should do a search on this forum for “bootloader,” read the threads discussing this, and probably contact Moog customer service.

my boot loader is 1.1

I now don't think it was the update.

I also rearranged my studio with patchbay at the same time as making sure all my gear was up to date.

I think its the earthing/ground issue ive read about that can effect the phattys that can cause erratic behaviour and tuning issues.

i took it out the rack and just used it with headphones and all the issues went away.
Its still out in the fine tuning by 30 to 40 cents but is rock solid on every note up and down the keyboard (it wasn't when connected up) once ive manually tuned it.

I'll have to experiment with different connection to see if i can resolve it.

i think some people think they have a faulty synth if its being odd from the start. luckily i knew it worked fine before i racked it up to patchbay.

For what it's worth, my Slim Phatty had the grounding issue, and the way it showed up was the knob settings would sporadically jump around without my touching them.
I sent it back to Sweetwater, who sent it to Moog, and it's been perfect since the repair! I'm a DIY guy, so been tempted to to look inside to see what the fix entailed. But it's such a pretty little synth that I don't want to scrape it when opening it up.
Good luck with yours!

This 'latest' software, which is, correct me if I'm wrong, two years old, is bugged AF, and it crashes and messes up old Phatties in all different ways.

The 3.21 messed my LP1 so bad, that rerolling it to older firmwares don't help anymore, but, anyway,
I've got an old 3.12v from Moog support after waiting more than a month, so if you want those, please PM me, I'll send you the link to the software.
