Which Moog?

Post by thepilgrimsdream » Mon Jul 22, 2019 5:37 pm

Hi guys,

I'm trying to figure out which Moog is best for my applications. I currently own a Mother-32 which I'm considering selling

I've worked primarily as a guitarist for the past 10 years(Music is no longer my main source of income). I've played piano my whole life and decided to take the jump into synthesizer land recently, primarily because it's a new frontier, and also I feel like being able to navigate the Ableton/Synth land adds value to me as a performer who accompanies other artists.

I have a Prophet REV2 for pads/layers/textures.
I have a Nord Stage 2 for my piano's/Organ etc.

Basically I would like the following:
Great Bass sounds (Moog duh)
Sequencer / Arpedgiator / LFO that beat syncs with Ableton
Multiple Presets

I love the Mother's sound so much and I feel it's underutilized because I don't have a Eurorack(Would love to, but isn't a practical thing right now), but I feel like there may be a better Moog for my application.

Suggestions?

Hi thepilgrimsdream,

At least to me, it's clear that you want a Sub 37, Subsequent 37, or a Subsequent 37 CV.

Any of these synths will check all those boxes quite nicely.

Hi thepilgrimsdream, welcome to the forum!

I was about to say as DemonDan; I just want to add that a SubPhatty will lack the arpeggiator and sequencer, and that the Little Phatty or Slim Phatty will lack the sequencer. But those are cheaper. That's just because I was not sure whether you absolutely wanted an arpeggiator and a sequencer.
