Sirin CV control with dummy plug in the gate hole

Post by nerr » Wed Jun 12, 2019 2:02 am

Hi synth friends,

Does anyone know if the Sirin will behave like the Slim Phatty in terms of CV control and the gate plug trick?

I control the SP via CV with my Etherwave Pro theremin by sticking a dummy lead in the gate input.

From the documentation it looks like the Sirin will only make a sound with a gate signal - is there a way to make it sound without this?

The reason I'm asking is the Etherwave Pro doesn't have a gate output.

Many thanks,

Miles

Hey Miles, I think a simple footswitch will do the job. And if you're not willing to activate it, just use a phone book :)
I use a clothespin/peg on my Little Phatty for some droning parts live, see there!

Otherwise, I guess the user's guide is available on the MoogMusic website.

If you get a latching footswitch, like the Boss FS—5L, you press and it stays on until you press again.

It should be able to drone by holding the Glide button and turning the Sustain all the way up, just like the Minitaur does

For turning it off, hold down the Glide button again, now turn Sustain all way down

Hey guys,

Yes it's a great trick with the SP and LPs!

If anyone has a chance to see if it works for the Sirin I'd be super grateful.

I'm using a theremin as controller and just want to know if it plays well with this.

The SP is awesome but a bit big for my touring rig - I'd love to swap it out for the Sirin live if it works!

Many thanks,

Miles

You're right, sorry to have insisted. I've just searched but the manual does not say it.

I'm quite confident that if the Minitaur does it , the Sirin does it too, but anyone actually owning a Sirin will tell better than me.

EDIT: you may want to ask this guy.

Ok, actually, I found it :)

Search DRONE ON/OFF, it is in the SHIFT PANEL FUNCTIONS QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE:

Code: Select all

DRONE ON/OFF:
GLIDE + AMP SUSTAIN (Min to Max = ON)
GLIDE + AMP SUSTAIN (Max to Min = OFF)
