I finally tried pot mapping to modulate the filter spacing
however, I could not get any CV control to modulate the thing??
the pot mapping worked, because I could move the assigned pot by hand and get the effect I wanted
but when I tried using CV to modulate it, nothing happened ( using the built in CV expander in the voyager XL, which should mimic the 351 etc )
is this normal? has anyone else got CV modulation working, with a pot mapped parameter?

I’m not sure I understand your configuration. For an external cv you need to first assign a pot mapping source to Mod 1 or Mod 2. Then you need to connect a CV ( say an LFO output) to the Mod 1 or Mod 2 input jack on the front panel. Set the pot map destination and amount. That’s it.

I was setting the filter spacing source to LFO1 rate
then CV modulating LFO1 rate on the XL patch panel/ VX351....but the CV modulation had no effect.
However if I turned the LFO1 knob by hand, it worked
so pot mapping only works if you are using MOD1 or MOD2?
that is a shame, as I already have those tied up doing other stuff. I was hoping I could use other parameters as CV inputs

strange thing is: it is actually affecting the LFO1, as I can see the LFO1 LED change with the CV mods
but it is not following thru to the pot mapping. That only works if I physically turn the knob

Pot Mapping is not equal to CV mapping.
On Pot Mapping, the digital data received from the A/Ded knobs is routed to the post A/D data of another knob.
The Pot Mapping was an additional feature not in the first Voyager specs.
Doing real CV mapping like you tried, would need plenty more A/D on all the CVs available on the connector to the expanders socket.

The pot mapping "source" IS a control voltage whether it's a performance control like the keyboard velocity, mod wheel etc. or one of the pots on the front panel. You can't modulate a control voltage with another control voltage. Think of the the Mod 1 and Mod 2 busses as open/spare unassigned sources until you connect something to their input jacks.ummagumma wrote:I was setting the filter spacing source to LFO1 rate

You are correct; but the LFO Rate CV input is a separate or rather parallel path to the destination. Just like you can modulate the filter directly with a CV. You have several paths to most destinations:
1) The actual physical front panel knob
2) The physical CV input jack (if it exist)
3) The pot mappings (up to 4 although assigning more than 1 to the same destination is of limited use )
4) Mod 1 Bus
5) Mod 2 Bus
The Mod Bus inputs can simultaneously control the destination selected on the front panel as well as the pot mappings - pretty cool. But obviously you can only have one thing plugged in to each Mod bus input so maybe try midi CC? One thing interesting (had to try this out of curiosity): You can control the pot mapped assigned source with its assigned midi CC. Which I believe is no different than controlling the pot mapped destination directly with its assigned midi cc.

good to know I can always use MIDI.....but that means I need more gear hooked up
I may continue my plan to add a "filter spacing" CV input on the patch panel. maybe even resonance. there's plenty of room under "cutoff"
