I see from most Modular users that in general, the final output from the Modular goes from a 902 VCA.
I would have thought that the final output would be from a CP3 or Matrix mixer, I know there can be no definitive output module but it does seem that most use a VCA as final output and now I'm wondering why.
Maybe this is something to do with frequencies or polarities ? Does anyone have any knowledge or info regarding final output ?

Re: Final audio output ?
If you do one sound at a time on your modular, it is very likely that the last module needed will be a VCA. But if you got a bigger system, you might do a sequence with sound, a bass and a FX sound on one system. This is when you need a mixer on your modular for output or an external mixer. There are only a few mixers for modulars in Moog size that feature FX sends like most external mixers. I got a non Moog mixer in my modular with CV controlled FX sends and CV panning to get it all done on my modular.
But there is never a right or wrong in modular. It is always the result that matters, not the how-to.

keep on turning these Moog knobs

Re: Final audio output ?
Both the 902 and CP3 mixer are DC, so one could get a DC offset from the output. The 984 matrix mixer is AC coupled and better suited for output to a console mixer or recorder. DC offset can cause distortion and lower volume/headroom due to the offset.Rarecomponentadsr wrote: Does anyone have any knowledge or info regarding final output ?

Re: Final audio output ?
I use a CP3 mixer as final out on my Modular because I mix 4 different sources, one being the built-in Minimoog. But then I also wanted to use my 1120 volume pedal.. so the CP3 feeds into a VCA, controlled by the pedal...

till that is very interesting, which MU size mixer are you using?till wrote:If you do one sound at a time on your modular, it is very likely that the last module needed will be a VCA.
