Tuning

Post by Bernardo Jimenez » Thu Feb 07, 2019 9:18 pm

Hello. Lately, something weird is happening to my Sub Phatty. It gets out of tune and no calibration process may fix it. But, using PhatyTuner (a very simple application that many of you surely know) I send the EQUAL TEMP (normal) tuning to the sub phatty and everything isntantly goes back to normal.
Wonder why is this happening and if there's anythign i can do to fix it.
Thanks for your help

Hola Ber,

I've been scratching my head on this problem. My thesis is that there is an undocumented CC which changes the Tuning Preset and it's being sent from your DAW when it sends a full MIDI reset

I understand you are able to go back to the standard tuning with an app, but you need to be able to do it without a computer. The workaround might be in the hidden functions: https://api.moogmusic.com/sites/default ... NS_2.0.pdf

On this document you will find Select Tuning Preset under Global settings, to the upper rightmost. Select number zero and you are done. For some reason, this is not documented on the main manual nor on the MIDI CC chart

I am checking every parameter in depth on this unit, hopefully might get some light on this issue soon, as well

Thanks very much Bicho. It actually works fine and it allows me to put back the SP on tune without having to use the Phatty Tuner. It's a relief, considering I don't have usually a computer handy when playing live.
This fixes it in the meantime. Still, the question remains: why in the first place this is happening.
Hope we can find it out.
Cheers.

Further research has taken me to a document that is included on the v2 update; Sub_Phatty_Firmware_Changes_2.0.pdf

Added support for MIDI Scale/Octave Tuning (http://www.midi.org/techspecs/midituning.php#oct_ext) • Can save up to 31 Scale/Octave Tuning Dump presets in internal memory.
• Moog Phatty Tuner software now works with Sub Phatty.
• RPN 00 03 (cc 100 value 3) selects Tuning Preset for editing.
• After selecting, Data Entry LSB (cc38) value 0-31 loads a specific Tuning Preset, or Increment/Decrement (CC96, 97) changes Tuning Preset by +/- 1.
• If preset 0 or no valid tuning preset in selected slot, 12TET is loaded.

I don't know it this might be able to help you resolve why does it change its scale tuning to other than the standard

Did you try doing a full reset with its corresponding sysex file?
