Minitaur LFO sync to Ableton

Post by szynkazmaslem » Tue Aug 08, 2017 7:54 am

Hello!

I tried to find the topic but with no luck, I would like to sync my Minitaur with Ableton, Ableton sends midi out but Minitaur is not receiving i. t
Changing MIDI IN to Quartet on a Minitaur is not making any difference. Where am I wrong?
Thx in Advance!

Are you using Ableton's "External Instrument"? Unfortunately I can't screenshot for some reason, but my set up is like this:
External Instrument - MIDI To Minitaur Out Channel 1
Audio From - No Input
MIDI Channel - MIDI From Minitaur - All Channels - Audio To (Separate Audio track routed for this with "Monitor" On)

I have the Minitaur VST on the MIDI channel along side the External Instrument and all parameters are available including LFO Sync to MIDI option.

You might have to tinker with the config to suit your set up but I hope this helps in some way.

You have to turn On the Sync options for both Minitaur In and Out drivers in Ableton preferences. Then turn On MIDI SYNC in the editor. No need to use it as an external instrument anymore since v3.2.

Thanks a lot, but in my case it is not working as expected... no sync, I would like the minitaur plugin to blink midi in matching with Ableton. And if you say "to turn On the Sync options for both Minitaur In and Out drivers in Ableton preferences" then Ableton will listen to the Minitaur, and I need the opposite.
And what is the difference between Minitaur editor and Minitaur editor - VI? (if it is called Virtual Instrument I would expect it to be loaded on a midi track and to behave as a VI...)

Thx!

I think you need to be looking into using Minitaur as a "slave" to Ableton's midi clock. I dont use Ableton for this, I use Maschine 2 instead. There should be an option (somewhere) in Ableton to "send master clock" or similar. maybe Jupiter can advise further? Good luck.

Thank you Joscuzz, I know that the Minitaur should be slave but I can't get it to work like that! Frustrating

Reading some of the Ableton forum posts and historically it looks like Ableton has a weakness with its Midi clock. If you haven't done so already, maybe jump over there and ask around?

Wish I could be of more help.

Hi All!

I believe the problem Szynkazmaslem is encountering here could be due to the MIDI settings in Ableton. In the screenshot of the MIDI preferences in Ableton, I see that SYNC for "Output: Minitaur" is turned OFF. Try turning this ON to see if this resolves the sync issue. All of your other settings appear to be correct. Make sure that you also have the LFO set to MIDI Sync in the "Under the Hood" tab of the Minitaur editor if trying to get the LFO to sync to MIDI. Hi the way I used to sync minitaur with Ableton I used both usb and midi cable : one for midi notes (via a midi keyboard) and one for the LFO sync

make sure that in the settings of ableton : MIDI sync enabled for Minitaur output

hope that helps

The sync of the lfo is not really good with ableton...
What are the best settings in ableton? I have only put the track out and sync out to ON. Is it OK?
I'm using USB midi. Is it really better to use the midi din to have a better sync?
Thank you for your help.

LFO sync is perfect here. I am using 2.2. The waveshape is perfectly synchronized to the beat.

How do you sync your Minitaur with Live? USB or din?

via USB... there isn't really any point using DIN since the ports are shared between Ableton and minitaur editor.

I use it like this and the LFO is really not perfectly sync..... Live is horrible for syncing perfectly... Like USB too!
I will receive soon an USAMO and I will get a real great sync!!! :P
