Voyager OS 3.6 Touch Surface Strangeness

Post by Markyboard » Tue Apr 04, 2017 4:56 pm

Well I may have lost all credibility by now but...

I've been really exploring the Touch Surface (TS) functions in detail and it appears that the TS midi transmitted data is always sent "Normally" - even when "Inverse" is selected .

When TS Local is On (Master menu) and you assign a TS destination with it's default midi CC selected and also select Inverse, the local data will "fight" the midi data coming back into the Voyager causing strange artifacts and a non-smooth effect.

Also the Gate Control assigned function does not work with TS Local off (midi only) as follows: Assigning the Gate CTRL to Release Switch does not work at all and "Inverse" has the same effect as "Normal" on all the other assignable parameters. To get the "Inverse" to work you have to have TS Local on and Midi CTRL No = Off

I generally like to operate with Local control off, sending the midi data to Reaper where it turns it around and is sent back to the Voyager. But as stated the TS Inverse function does not work over midi. Now you might be thinking if you're using the midi data to go back to the Voyager then you should turn off the TS local. Only as I also stated the TS gate control does not work well over midi

Hi Markyboard,
yes, you are right.
The touch surface of the Voyager works like the pots and not everything is possible with it.
It's also not possible to avoid this MIDI conflict when you are using pot mapping and local is off.

I'm not surprised Rudi and in reality there are no show stoppers here - just a bit of head scratching at times.
Fortunately I'm getting better at documenting these things.

The one thing I would wish for is a global way to disable midi transmitted by the Touch Surface. I see it's not in the recently added "Midi Enables" and I'm guessing it's because you can assign any one of numerous CCs to each control (cool!) and the TS menu itself allows turning midi off for each parameter. But it would be really cool to have a "All Off" or better yet an "All Off" for TS X, TS Y, TS A and TS Gate under the "Midi Enables". Just a suggestion.

Thanks again for responding - always appreciated.

Hi Markyboard,
I made a change in the programmable CURSOR function.
Now there's an additional function called "T.S. MIDI CTRL" (no. 18).
The CURSOR toggles the touch surface MIDI controller on/off when the PANEL display is active.
It would be nice if you could check it.
Here's the download link:

Have fun,

Looking good Rudy. I had to figure out the global cursor button function as I've never used it until now. Took me a little while to figure out each patch has an enable/disable (wasn't documented anywhere I could find which of course is more fun for some of us :P) . This is really cool and I'm sure I'll be using it for others things as well.

I went back to controlling some TS parameters (filter, osc 1 level) using "inverse" where it was giving some choppy results. Toggled TS midi on/off using the cursor button - works great!
Thanks so much! 8)
