MemoryMoog latest firmware for non-plus

Post by moreloud » Tue Nov 29, 2016 9:27 am

Hi all,

I've been trolling around the net for a while unable to find anything I can download. I have an earlier serial number MM (non-plus) that doesn't have the autotune update. I'd like to add this but need firmware version 2.4 (or later). Anyone have the EPROM images on hand? I have the means to burn EPROMs.

Thanks in advance!

The autotune update with firmware 2.4 will only work on a Plus model. Unless you have the sequencer/MIDI expansion board, you're out of luck.

Hello Memory Moog users,

As much as I always like and learn from MC's input on things, I need to correct his info here.

The auto tune update was designed to update the NON-Plus Memory Moog.

The Memory Moog was release with version 1.4 and was installed on 3-2532 ROM chips.
Shortly after that was version 1.5 and then 1.6. 1.6 is the most common version of the NON-plus and NON-auto tune update.
Then there was a short lived version 2.2 and then the auto tune update was released with version 2.4.
That version was quickly replaced with version 2.5 and is the most common version of the installed auto tune update.

Then came the plus upgrade, that contained an additional PC board that had the MIDI and sequencer connectors on it.
This was released with Version 4.0 and included a 4th ROM that was installed on the MIDI PC board.
Also the memory was expanded with the addition of another 6116 memory chip.
This version was also replaced with version 4.1 and is the last version of the Memory Moog plus.
I have a version 5 but have not tried to install it.

There was also a DBM Memory Moog plus after market upgrade that would give you control of MIDI channel select and volume, Pitch, Mod and foot controller via MIDI.

I have the auto tune upgrade available but it is rather involved to install.
You can PM me if interested.

Thanks.

GD

Right he is.

Factory Service Bulletin #840 covers the autotune upgrade for non-plus models, has no mention of the sequencer/MIDI board. The FSB does not specify "non-plus" only the serial # range.

FSB #841 covers the plus model.

I was going from memory. Must have had a senior moment. My apologies.

Hi moreloud,
I can't recommend the autotune update cause the 17.4 kOhm resistors on the DMUX board are wrong and as long as you do not eliminate the bugs of the MM you will not get a better synth.

Hi RL,
What should they be, for that firmware then? Just curious?

Thanks.

Hi GD,
leave them (115KOhms/1%) and change resistors R1, R32 and R72 (1MOhms/1%) to 249kOhms/1% on the voice cards.

I hate to revive such an old thread but, can I ask if this voice board modification is 'instead of' the complete auto-tune upgrade? Or just instead of the resistor change on the DMUX board? I have an early SN that doesn't have the upgrade done to it yet and I'm running 1.6 but planned to do it and then saw this thread...

Does anybody know whether the firmware assembler sources exist and if so who has them?
