My Pedalboard

Post by facon » Thu Oct 06, 2016 3:09 pm

A few years ago, I decided to put together a ridiculous pedalboard with everything I'd ever need. I use this mostly in my studio, but do still play out live once every couple months. I have to wire up the midi cables, but everything else is good to go.

Yes, it weighs a lot!

RJM Mastermind PCB - {Pigtronix Philospher King > Pittsburgh Patch Box > Moog MF-101 > Moog CP-251} > Zvex Fuzz Factory 7 > BYOC Silver Pony > Big Muff clone > WFRI Proco Rat > MF -103 > MF-108M > {MF-104M & MF-10MSD in stereo} > Eventide H9 > Pigtonix Infinity Looper

So, questions...
What's that patch box? How do you use it live? Is it like a patch bay for the different pedals?
The switcher in front right with 3 footswitches, is that for the looper? I see the looper is under the top tier...
What's WFRI?
I'll repeat someone else's question: how are the foogers fastened to the board?
Is the board diy or pro made? It's extraordinary!

The Pittsburgh patchbox is a small Eurorack enclosure designed for the floor. It's the big box on the bottom right with all of the patch cables. I currently have it setup for two things. The left half replicates a synth kind of sound (like an EHX Micro Synth). Its a an envelope detector (Pittsburgh Detect) that goes into an envelope generator (Pittsburgh ADSR) that controls the filter on my MF-101. The audio is routed through a Soundlabs .COM module that basically crushes it to a square and gives me sun octaves. The other module is a Mutable Instruments Clouds.

The patchbox is cool, but it's very noisy. It has to be isolated from the rest of the audio ground. I'll be using a stereo DI. Here's the link to the patchbox.

WFRI stands for Whiteface Reissue.

I just use dual lock Velcro for everything. I took the feet off of the moogerfoogers, flipped the bottom plate around, and velcro'd.

My friend is a woodworker. I designed the entire thing, sourced the wood locally, then he made it.

HI Facon,

I think we may have chatted on soundcloud. My Patch Box is not noisy. In fact, I like it so much that I ordered a 2nd one. I think they upgraded their power supply in the last batch to one made by "Vol-gen."

I've heard the Clouds module can be quite noisy because the reverb is only 12-bit. At least that's the talk on Muff-Wiggler. I was thinking of getting the clouds until I read about that. . .

Beautiful!!

I would never dare do this, in particular take off the ears of the Moogerfoogers. I like having them handy independently. But seeing this could make me change my mind. Excellent execution.

I'm not on soundcloud. But yeah, my patch box is very noisy, regardless of being true bypassed. As soon as any ground is shared between the patch box and anything in my rig, it gets really noisy. Every individual module adds it's own bit of noise. I've sent it in to be looked at. They also shipped the newer vol-gen power supply to me. No luck.

The Clouds module is definitely the noisiest. Lots of digital beeps and high pitched noises. I think I'm going to take that one out soon. For some reason, I just can't seem to get anything useful out of it. Its all the same long droning notes, regardless of the mode or settings. Just weird droning horror movie sounds.
