Minitmoog

Post by Ezzo » Tue Feb 28, 2006 9:58 pm

Some of you may know that I was on a bit of a quest for a string machine. Now that I've found one I've decided to do some research on something that can do good brass sounds, sort of like on the Beatles song "for no one". Has anyone ever owned/tried a minitmoog? How are its Brass presets?

Minitmoog is a poor synth, collector's fodder only. There is a good reason they were made for only one year - the aftertouch had a chronic problem with degrading materials due to chemical reactions. Even though they were basically a Satellite with a second oscillator, they are very thin sounding synths.

That's a real french horn on "For No One". I love that song.

 I realized that after I posted the question. I guess the way the notes die off on it made me think it was a mellotron or something. But that song might even be pre-mellotron.

The Mellotron came out in '63. That song is from Revolver which was recorded in '66.

The Chamberlin (the creation of Harry Chamberlin), upon which the Mellotron was based, came out even earlier! 1960 or so!
