Slim Phatty noob - pitch bend

Post by johnrule » Sat May 14, 2016 10:23 pm

I've been playing around with my new (used) Slim Phatty (SL), and enjoying it very much. However, the pitch bend seems off somehow. I am controlling it with a new Sledge 2, and only occasionally it seems like the SL has a delay in the start of the note.

I basically created a patch that sounds like the lead in Steve Winwood's "While You See a Chance" tune, and when I bend down to slide up to the note, there is a noticeable delay at times. When I switch to the Sledge and play exactly in the same manner (and sound), it sounds perfect, so it really is the SL (imo).

I think it only happens when I have the PB already down (engaged), press a note, and then release the PB to slide quickly up. It does work some of the time, but it is obvious when it fails :-(

It sounds like you might just need to calibrate ~
One of the joys/quirks of true analog!

Run all the calibration routines per the manual, and that will hopefully tale care of your issue.
Be sure to let the Slim warm up a good 30 minutes or so before running the routines!

It may take a while to run all the routines the first go around if they haven't been run before, but in the end it's generally worth it.
I run the routines once a year or so on my Little and Slim Phatty's, and it does seem to help keep everything in tune and functioning as expected.
Since I started calibrating periodically (and never take the gear outside my home studio), I find it generally takes less than 30 minutes to run all the routines.

BTW -
If you haven't already, be sure to check the Moog downloads for manuals and several free preset packs for the Slim & Little Phatty's. :)

Have fun -
The Slims are VERY cool analog synths!

Thanks for the advice Randy :)

I will do the calibrations and let you know. Other than that one issue, everything seems great. Very nice analog hardware for the money.
