For Moog Taurus I owners

Post by Kevin Lightner » Wed Nov 14, 2007 5:23 pm

I just came here to mention a very limited offering for Moog Taurus I owners.

First, a little background...
The Moog T1 pedals are great units, but suffer from one huge weak spot- the pedalboard contacts.
The pedalboard is the same as a home organ of that era (Lowery, etc) and not up to the rigors of the road.
The stock contact boards often crack since the boards are made of phenolic, a brittle material.
The original silver plated contacts also tarnish over even a short time.
This causes lost notes or even all pedals (located below a bad contact) to stay silent.

I've designed a replacement contact board that directly replaces the stock contact board.
The new switches used are 1 million cycle switches and sealed from dust.
The new boards are *thick* glass epoxy types with full solder mask and seal.
The connectors and pins (new, of course) are the same type that mate with a stock T1.
The board simply plugs in and replaces the original board.
No soldering. Just a screwdriver or two to do the whole job.
The original contact board can be stored away.

Cool things...
These boards won't break, crack or absorb moisture like the originals.
The contacts do not require any cleaning.
If a switch were to break (not likely), replacements are still available.
(1 million cycles is equivalent to tapping one note per beat at 120 BPM for over 19 weeks straight.)
No change is made to the sound or playability of the Moog.

I have already installed prototype boards in several T1s over the past two years.
None have failed or required any cleaning whatsoever.
One of these T1's is even toured and experienced zero problems.

Hopefully these will help some Moog T1 pedals to play again.
Price is $229 ea USD. Warranty is for 5 years.
Quantities are very limited.
Write me at [email protected] if interested.

....and this time, I didn't hurt my back! ;-)

Me again.. :)

A few people have asked about these boards privately, so I thought I'd show a pic on the forum.

I'm also making vinyl replacements for the T1 side panels.
The pic shows three faux woodgrains available. More are available.
The vertical one on the left is an original Moog.

I'm guessing that most people want it to look like wood, but it could be any color, including dayglo, chrome or glow in the dark. :)

I have the opportunity to make another batch of 20 of these, if there's enough demand. :)
The price should be about the same or slightly higher if materials cost more.

If anyone's interested, please email: [email protected] with the subject "T1 Board".
Please spread the word. Thanks!

Assembly for the next round of T1 contact boards should begin at the end of the month. My target ship date is Christmas, but something tells me New Year's. We'll see how it goes once the first one is made!

The new boards will be black to distinguish them from the ones Kevin made, which are either green or red. They'll be made to the exact same specs, of course. :)

I had to raise the price of the boards to $395 each. My parts costs increased significantly, and for the first time there are labor costs to consider.

If you've previously contacted me about the boards, I still have your info and will contact you once the boards are ready to ship.

I decided to put up a page for the board and show pics of what this rev looks like:

I now have the advantage of living where the post office will deliver to your door! I have 4 ready right now and they can ship tomorrow. :)

It's a good feeling to be able to offer this product again. It was about 11 years ago that he first started working on the idea, and 10 since we first offered it. I'd actually offered a friend the rights to make them, and he opted to loan me the money so I could make them myself. I had about 98% of the info I needed, but that last 2% had me cursing Kevin for not documenting everything.

I have ideas for simple Eurorack stuff too, but delving into that depends on how well this little venture works. :D

This kind of stuff may be a winter/summer thing for me, as Spring and Fall are filled with the Southern CA and Northern CA Ren Faires. :)

Hello!

The link above now includes a video of the board after it was installed. The owner of this unit is my investor, and that T1 is the last piece of gear Kevin ever worked on. The demonstrator is my Sweetie, who assembled most of these after I taught him how to solder. :) That was also the first time he'd actually seen a T1. :)

I have two of these boards ready to go, and I could really use the money for rent. So,I'm offering a special just for y'all. I'm leaving Friday for my 3rd year building the Renaissance Faire in SoCal, so this offer is only good for purchases made before March 2nd. :)

Free shipping within the USA via USPS Priority, fully insured.
$25 shipping to North/South America, fully insured.
$40 shipping to Europe/Asia, fully insured.

Thanks!

If anyone's been interested in one of these, I'd really appreciate it if you contacted me ASAP.
I want to go back to school to have a tangible career in solar, but I need to pay for the class. :)

Yep, I'm having another sale. I have 4 left of this run. :)

I'm offering the boards for $350 including shipping worldwide!
I will not be able to ship until the first week of October.

I broke my arm working 6 months ago (on my birthday! ), and that really messed with my income. This sale will help me with a few things I need until I find steady employment.

Thanks!

The next batch of 10 is being assembled and should be ready in a month (maybe less!).

I've reduced the price to $350 for this run. 3 have been reserved, so there's 7 left!
