Re: Distortion pedal for sub37
There is a newer filter effect box on the market based on the polivoks filter. There was a blurb about it on sonic state a month or two ago. I have the polivoks filter in my modular and it distorts all on its own, beautifully. That might be an interesting option. It's hard to find a transparent overdrive that can handle the tonal range of a synth.

I have added six additional sound demos to the Waldorf 2-Pole article. All dry recordings with only the Sub 37 and the 2-Pole in the signal chain.macsaif wrote:I have checked the link to Waldorf 2-pole and it seems very interesting too. Do you have some more sound samples (leads) which can be produced combined with sub 37?
Specifically demonstrated are the different filter types, the distortion possibilities, the threshold-based envelope trigger, and the LFO, as well as self-oscillation of the filter.

Alas, the sound quality of 16-Bit 44.1Khz MP3 with 256 KBit in deed takes away some of the rich harmonic content. The raw uncompressed recordings did sound a little better.
Btw, the 2-Pole can be really awesome on beats, too

Could you do a demo video or audio of the sub 37, minitaur, and/or voyager with the deluxe bass muff?jsharpphoto wrote:Bass Big Muff Pi Deluxe.
It has a blend knob to mix the dry signal, a gate to limit the hum, and a crossover. The crossover will send the distortion through a high pass, and the dry signal through a low pass, each with its own cutoff. And the crossover is activated by its own switch.
It's like $130. It's crazy how flexible it is, especially for something from the Muff lineup.
AND. it has a buffered dry output, which you can send back into the audio input to further drive the filter.

Thank you for doing this - it sounds great!fwilleke wrote:I have added six additional sound demos to the Waldorf 2-Pole article. I have the Bass Big Muff (as I said before) and like it fine. And the Waldorf sounds even better. But this thing is pretty awesome:

I use the bass muff Delux in my voyager and it is awesome. I got the bass soul food for my minitaur (didn't have room for the bass muff) and it's also great. Blend knob, and it has a similar high pass for the wet sound, but no low pass for the dry. It's also very transparent. It's a good option for subtle overdrive.braddo wrote:I have the Bass Big Muff (as I said before) and like it fine. And the Waldorf sounds even better. But this thing is pretty awesome:

Here I have found an interesting comparison btw distortion pedals:
http://www.acidvoice.com/tb_303_best_di ... _pedal.htm
It is a pity that there is no Bass Big Muff deluxe for comnparison. Do you think there is a big difference compared to Big Muff Pi Russian-made?

By the way, I've added a Palmer Pocket Amp MK2 to my effects section, and it also sounds interesting with the Sub 37. As soon as I find the time, I'll record some demos with it.

That's an interesting site. Thanks for the link. There are MASSIVE differences between the bass big muff deluxe and a Russian Pi Muff.fwilleke wrote:By the way, I've added a Palmer Pocket Amp MK2 to my effects section, and it also sounds interesting with the Sub 37. Can you explain in short what are the differences btw. this 2 EHX pedals?
Do you have any record using the Bass Big Muff?
Thank you in advance!

Re: Distortion pedal for sub37
The only difference that matters is that most distortion/overdrive/fuzz p dale that are designed for "bass" have a blend knob. You can sail in the mix between the effect and your dry signal. This is critical since distortion robs your sound of low end, the blend lets you preserve as much as you want.macsaif wrote:Can you explain in short what are the differences btw. this 2 EHX pedals?

Re: Distortion pedal for sub37
Earlier in this thread I suggested the EHX Bass Muff Deluxe. I think that pedal might be too much fuzz for the sub37. It works great on the voyager because it's pre-filter. For a post-output pedal for something like the sub37 I would go with the EHX bass soul food. It still has a blend knob, but it's more of a transparent overdrive. It's also only 85$ instead of 135$.

If you want a really nice distortion, the Suhr Riot would be top of my list. I am a guitarist. Big Muff's can be harsh and grainy. I would go more upmarket.

Re: Distortion pedal for sub37
I agree for the most part. I would never consider ANY distortion pedal that didn't have a blend knob. And not too sound too snotty, but unless you have tried a specific pedal with a synth, don't recommend it. You may have used the Suhr Riot on a Moog and are speaking from experience, in which case it should be added to the thread about pedals, in the general section. But if you haven't, and are just speculating because it works well with guitar, it MIGHT sound horrible with synths. For instance, the boss DS-1 is regarded as a dog bleep pedal buy most guitarists, but it actually sounds great on drum machines. And the Sovtek-style Big Muffs that most guitarists cherish, sound a bit rubbish on synths because the can't cover the entire frequency range of the synth, or the cut too much bass or mids.vinnyburns wrote:If you want a really nice distortion, the Suhr Riot would be top of my list. Again, if you have first hand experience with the Riot on a Moog, let us know. I think the whole concept of recommending, or asking for recommendations on a distortion pedal to be difficult. Everything sounds different to different people, and everyone has a different ideal for their own sound.

Re: Distortion pedal for sub37
as I have mentioned in the 1st post I am looking for distortion pedal which can help to achieve the similar distortion as the Little Phatty. For example:

3:04-3:08
This is only one example. I do not need a clear or nice overdrive because it can be achieved by Sub37 itself. I want to make a similar dirty sound as LP can.
