How much to replace SUB 37 Filter pot?

Post by geoffmar » Wed Jan 27, 2016 4:01 am

Hi - been trying to contact moog support to no avail. I bought a sub 37 off reverb.com. seller advertised as mint. Unfortunately its a low serial number and the filter is unusable - skips between 1khz and 9-10 khz to the point where i can't even remotely do a filter sweep. Seller told me its out of warranty. I doubt I can return it - How much will it cost to replace the filter myself?

I suggest calling for service rather than email. Filter pot is a known issue, I had mine replaced 2 weeks ago, S/N 12XX, out of warranty, no charge.

Have you registered your Moog? After you create an account, register the product, then you can create an RMA directly in the service system.

The entire top right panel board gets swapped out, not the pot. It is possible to swap it yourself if you have the replacement board, some basic tools, and patience. That way you can avoid shipping & handling fees and the service queue time.

The Sub37 is a powerful instrument, I think you'll find the replacement pot better than the original.

Thanks for the reply. Was hoping to avoid expensive shipping costs but doesn't look likely. Shame as I've got this fantastic synth just sitting there, haven't turned on in two weeks!

Also, if you haven't already, please leave a review on Reverb for this particular seller. If they sold you a synth with a known problem and didn't advertise it then people need to know. :x

Do I have to pay for shipping to send it back to moog?

Off course you need to pay shipping , moog know about the filter issue.

I already asked several times that moog need to give lifetime warranty for the filter issue. ( i think they do)
But it is normal that you must pay the shipping to send & return.

hi paramnesia in your case re:swapout the front panel board with the filter knob, did they just send you the board to do yourself? im fairly handy with a soldering iron i could do this myself also. Would like to know how i go about getting the board sent out. Happy to pay for the postage to send to me, would be much cheaper than the postage of the whole synth and i dont trust sending my beautiful synth in the grubby mail

I took the synth back to the factory for bench service, took a few hours but got it the next day

no soldering required for -672 Right Hand Panel PCB swap, everything uses ribbon cables or connectors
