Sub 37 Cookbook?

Post by fwilleke » Mon Sep 14, 2015 10:05 am

I wondered if there's something like a "Sub 37 Cookbook": A site where people can share patches and tips about the usage of the Sub 37. I always liked the microKORG Cookbook on Tumblr.
Since on Google, I couldn't find anything like that, I assume that such a thing doesn't exist yet.

You recon that would be a good idea, or do you think nobody would care or use it?
Would you be willing to participate and share some knowledge there?

I could think of articles about...
  • Cool patches
  • Vintage patches (e.g. recreated from the old Minimoog patch sheets)
  • Tips & Tricks / Tutorials
Cheers,
Frank

I would definitely participate.

Just a note, vintage minimoogs didn't have "presets". Maybe what you mean is new presets of famous minimoog songs. I'm still working on my "just what I needed" patch.

Yeah, I know it didn't have presets. I thought of those patch sheets (from the original documentation?), like these:
http://www.synthzone.com/midi/moog/mini ... 20BOOK.pdf

Those are classic standard patches for the Mini that might still be fun playing on the Sub 37.

I have set something up on my server.
You think this might work?

No need to set up something special - KnobTweak already has a Sub37 section with several dozen patches on offer from users.

Come and get 'em (and post a few of your own while you're there!). :D

Ah, cool! That takes the admin work off my shoulders.
I'll take a look at it :-)

On the other hand... I'm not completely convinced by the concept of Yahoo mailing groups.
I'll see if I can befriend with it :)

I almost always have problems with Yahoo Groups and reason I always avoid them, even though there's some rather great groups on there. In order to register with Yahoo they require phone numbers and I am just not willing to hand over my privacy to Yahoo. Surprised they are even still around. Would love to glean great info from that site but even my Norton 360 security always tells me about unsafe activity or site in general. Sad, but that's been my experience.

I'm not a fan of Yahoo Groups. Also for privacy reasons.

:) This is such a great idea. I'm also not big on Yahoo groups.

I'm absolutely in favor of the death of the yahoo group and the creation of something new. I'm a member of knob tweak but I rarely check it. Yahoo groups feels super 90s and is a real pain on mobile. No offense to the original members who started it, whom I'm sure are awesome.

After experimenting with various WP plugins that should allow me to create a safe environment for folks to post patches and not have access to each other's data, I kind of gave up ;-)
Instead, I added a "Patch submission form" where you can easily submit a patch. I'll then review it (to get rid of spam) and post it to the cookbook blog.

Patch submission form:
http://sub37cookbook.frankwilleke.de/submit/

There is also a twitter account that will tweet new posts:
https://twitter.com/sub37cookbook

Patch submissions are very welcome!
If nobody submits anything, I'll just continue posting my own stuff there :D

Hello, I'm interested in this!

However, I'm new to synthesis, so I would benefit from turning the actual knobs. Would there be a way to display the actual knob settings, etc?
Great work, thanks!
