Sub 37 Critical Duophonic Feature Request

Post by Toom » Sat Aug 29, 2015 2:09 pm

There's one thing I find a bit frustrating with duophonic mode. Whenever you release the second note, OSC2 goes right back to OSC1 note position. For example, if you press F (OSC1) and C (OSC2) and let go to give it a nice filter release effect, OSC2 will go right back to F instead of sustaining at the position of C.

Is there a way to implement a setting that locks OSC2 to its current position until another note is pressed or if OSC1 is pressed alone a single time as a 'reset' for both OSCs positions. Does that make sense?

Sadly, as it stands, there's no way to have duophonic mode 'releases', OSC2 always goes to OSC1 position when you release.

I believe this is a missed opportunity for duophonic mode. This would greatly enhance the soundscape potential. There should be a way go back to default, but this setting should be an option for duophonic mode.

The only way you can get release is through the sequencer. But you can't do it while playing live.

Hi Toom,

You probably already know this but (for others following along)... there is only one FILTER (and only one FILTER EG) as well as only one final AMP (with only one AMP EG) for all the sound sources in a Sub 37.

So there can't be a separate "nice filter release effect" for OSC 2, at least in terms of separate Filter EG and Amp EG releases.

Whatever the FILTER EG and AMP EG release does for OSC 1 (and SUB OSC, and NOISE, and EXT IN), it's going to have the identical effect on OSC 2 as all of those sound sources are mixed together before going to the FILTER and AMP.

Your request to have OSC 2 stay at its pitch, even though the 2nd key has been released, is reasonable (don't know if it's possible or not) and has been requested on this forum several times. And your idea about holding OSC 2 until a new note is struck is certainly a part of how it would work (if it can work).

No promises but, it would certainly be useful if we (the forum) collectively thought through every possibility of specific key actions and their desired results (in terms of what OSC 1 & 2 would do) in each case.

For the specific problem of OSC 2 jumping back to the key held for OSC 1, here's a link to my workarounds:
