With my new found confidence in some things MIDI I set about looking for an iPad app that was good for automated knob twiddling.
One of my favourite things to do in post-production is to automate very slow filter sweeps and suchlike, so that the timbres are constantly changing, but so slowly that the listener may not be immediately aware of the changes. Piling a few such automations on top of each other overcomes the phenomenon of aural fatigue (don't know if it has a proper name - that feeling that a ticking clock or a metronome will drive you insane after a while because every tick is exactly the damn same.)
MIDI Pattern Sequencer (A.K.A. mSequencer) provides the ability to ramp up to 8 CCs smoothly and slowly (or stepwise for arpeggios etc - it's massively better than the ThereMIDI app for arpeggios) and create longer sequences than you will ever need. And at £2.99 (or $2.99) it's a budget friendly app with a very usable interface.
Here's a video demonstrating the relevant bits. https://youtu.be/rJDi6C742bk (The automation can also be displayed to cover the entire grid rather than just the track height, very hand during sequence development.)
