Software Sequencer For Midi Murf

Post by mjac28 » Sun Jul 26, 2015 4:08 pm

Hi does anyone know of any software sequencers for the Midi Murf that are more feature rich than the standard pattern editor?

You can use a program like Ableton Live to sequence and automate any of the insanely long list of MIDI parameters. I got lost in doing just that for weeks when I first bought the MIDI MuRF. It was a blast testing out different ways to use this pedal. I sold off my Foogers to buy more modular, but came back around to buying them all over again more recently. I made a cheat sheet for the next time I play with the MIDI, thanks for the reminder that I need to spend more time testing the limits of my gear and the MuRF is included of course.

Just in case anyone might want it, here is my Cheatsheet. It is basically all the info I wanted at my fingertips, so I might have left things out if I wasn't interested in it (aka check the manual for the full list). I haven't had a chance to try all of these things out just yet, so feel free to point out any problems and I will try to update and edit the descriptions.

SETTING THE MIDI CHANNEL
The MIDI MuRF Defaults to MIDI Channel 1 for receiving Channel Mode messages (MIDI CCs, MIDI Note Ons). The MIDI Channel can be set by the user one of two ways: powering up with the LFO and FREQ switch in the left position and with the stomp switch pressed sets the MIDI channel to 1-12 corresponding to the position of the pattern rotary switch. In addition, a MIDI CC #102 with values 1-16 received on any MIDI Channel will set the MIDI channel to 1-16. When the MIDI MuRF is powered down, the last MIDI Channel assignment is remembered.

Using MIDI Program Change Messages: values 0-23 accesses the MuRF patterns 1-24. This has no impact on the position of the FREQ switch, so that using MIDI, you can use any of the 24 patterns with either voicing,

ENVELOPE: CC1 (Mod Wheel)
DRIVE: CC2 (Foot Controller).
LFO RATE/SWEEP: CC3.
OUTPUT LEVEL: CC7 (Volume)
MIX: CC8.
RATE: CC9

FILTERS 1-8 LEVEL: CCs 20-27
the CC value sets the volume of the corresponding filter up to the maximum volume set by that filter’s slider. Note that the values of CC20-27 Messages do not override the positions of the sliders

Pattern Reset: CC90 Any Value. A CC90 message received will instantly reset the current pattern to the beginning (step 1). This is useful for re-synchronizing the pattern to an off-beat while you are in MIDI sync.

PATTERN CLOCK RESET: If the pattern clock is running, MIDI Note 65 will re-set the pattern to step 1

Pattern Clock Sync On/Off: CC89. Values 0-63=OFF; 64-127= ON.

FREQ BASS/MIDS Switch: CC86; Values 0-63=BASS; 64-127=MIDS.

LFO ON/OFF: CC85; Values: 0-63=OFF; 64-127=ON.

ENVELOPE SCALE: CC70: CC70 expands/compresses the overall duration of the envelope while keeping the same shape set by the ENVELOPE control or CC1. Using CC70 you can control the envelope time scale independently of the Rate control.

STEP MODE: Note On Value 108

MUTE MODE: Note On Values 24, 26, 28, 29, 31, 33, 35, 36

STACCATO MODE: CC68 OFF/ON (0-63 = OFF, 64-127 = ON). This mode changes the way envelopes behave in “Triggered Mode” (See below on p. 21 for Triggered Mode description) If this is OFF (which is the default), then the envelopes go all the way through their attack and decay no matter how briefly you hold the MIDI note. If "staccato mode" is ON, then the envelopes play all the way out if you hold down the MIDI note, but if you release the MIDI note the envelope goes immediately to zero.

TRIGGERED MODE: Note On Values 48, 50, 52, 53, 55, 57, 59, 60
If a Note On is held until the EGR goes through its complete attack/decay cycle, a new Note On message is required to retrigger the EGR. An EGR is retriggered from the last point in the EGR cycle if retriggered before the Decay segment reaches the end of its cycle. This is an "8-voice polyphonic" mode – so up to all 8 filters can be fired at once (in the order they are received serially).

SUSTAINED MODE: Note On Values 72,74,76,77,79,81,83,84
the corresponding filter is set to a level determined by the Note On Velocity. When the Note Off message is received for that same note value the filter’s DAC Value is written to zero. This means you can "play" the filters in a sustained fashion with Note On messages.

NOTE PRIORITY: Triggered mode and Sustained mode can be used at the same time, with the last note played taking priority for the corresponding filter.

Sustained/ Trigger Mode cannot be used at the same time as Mute Mode so if any Sustained/ Trigger Mode Note On messages are received, any Mute mode Note on values are ignored. Note that if the clock is stopped by Sustained/Trigger/Step Mode Note On values, a Mute Mode Note On does NOT restart the clock – clocks are only restarted by changing the Rate control, changing the Rate input CV, receiving CC9, or by receiving MIDI Clock start or continue message.

Sustained/ Trigger Mode cannot be used at the same time as Step Mode so if any Sustained/ Trigger Mode Note on Values are received, Note on value 108 is ignored. A Step mode note (Note On 108) received after Sustained or Trigger Mode Notes will place the MIDI MuRF back into Step mode.

Mute Mode cannot be used at the same time as Step Mode so if Note on Value 108 is received, Mute Mode Note on values are ignored.
MIDI CCs 20-27 are treated with priority over the Note On Modes to control the levels of Filters 1-8.

FIRMWARE UPDATE VIA MIDI: The MF-105M can be enabled to receive MIDI SysEx data containing the Operating Firmware for the MIDI MuRF by powering up in what is called "Bootloader Mode". This is done by setting the LFO and FREQ switch in the rightmost position and pressing the Bypass switch while the unit is powered up. The Drive and Bypass lights will blink, followed by all LEDs lighting up green. This indicates the unit is in Bootloader Mode and can be sent firmware via a MIDI connection. More information about this feature as well as tools for downloading firmware can be found on the http://www.moogmusic.com website.

Glitch Mode: Send MIDI CC #0 (zero), value 127 to theMoog MIDI MuRF, and it will put the envelope into “Glitch Mode.”
Adjust the envelope parameter and interesting sonic chaos will ensue.
MIDI CC #0, sent with any value other than 127 will set the MuRF back to normal operation.
MemoryMoog Plus (with Kenton Midi Upgrade Kit) MF-101 Lowpass Filter, MF-102 Ring Mod, MF-103 Stage Phaser, MF104M Delay, MF-105M MIDI MuRF, MF-107 Freq Box, MF-108M ClusterFlux and CP-251 Control Processor.

Why yes, there is a very good chance that I did!

108M Cluster Flux Cheat Sheet:

CC# 5 (MSB)/ CC#37 (LSB) Delay Time Portamento. This CC sets the rate of change of Delay time by all controls (Delay Time control, Delay Time CV, LFO, and MIDI control of Delay time). Larger values slow down the rate of change, creating a “glide” effect for the Delay time. The default value on each power cyle is 0

CC# 7 (MSB)/ CC#39 (LSB): Output Level Control
CC# 12 (MSB)/ CC#44 (LSB): Delay Time
CC# 13 (MSB)/ CC#45 (LSB): Feedback
CC# 14 (MSB)/ CC#46 (LSB): Mix Control
CC# 15 (MSB)/ CC# 47 (LSB): LFO Rate
CC# 16 (MSB)/ CC# 48 (LSB): LFO Amount
CC# 70: LFO Waveform (0-15=Sine, 16-31=Triangle, 32-47=Square, 48-63=Saw, 64-79=Ramp, 80-95=Random Stepped, 96-127=Smoothed Random (Not available on Front panel))
CC# 74: Range (Flange/Chorus) (0-63=Flange, 64-127=Chorus)
CC# 91: Bypass On/Off (0-63=Effect Off 64-127=Effect On)

THE FOLLOWING CC MESSAGES DO NOT CORRESPOND TO FRONT PANEL CONTROLS, BUT EXTEND THE CLUSTER FLUX’S CAPABILITIES.
The Delay Time Range Multiplier multiplies the delay time by 2, 4 or 8 vastly extending delay time. This feature is for obtaining unusual/ lo-fi echo effects. When the delay time is increased past the default maximum delay time available on the front panel, the BBD Clock signal will be audible

CC# 71: LFO Clock Divisions. List of values and associated rhythmic divisions achieved with this CC.
CC71 V. CLOCK DIVISION CC71 V. CLOCK DIVISION
0-5 4 Whole Notes 64-69 1/2 Triplet
6-11 3 Whole Notes 70-75 1/4 Note
12-17 2 Whole Notes 76-81 Dotted 1/8
18-23 WH+Dotted 1/2 82-87 1/4 Triplet
24-29 Dotted Whole 88-93 1/8 Note
30-34 Whole + 1/4 94-98 Dotted 1/16
35-40 Whole Note 99-104 1/8 Triplet
41-46 Dotted 1/2 105-110 1/16 Note
47-52 Whole Triplet 111-116 1/16 Triplet
53-58 1/2 Note 117-122 1/32 Note
59-63 Dotted 1/4 123-127 1/32 Triplet

CC# 72: LFO Phase Reset- Sending any value of this CC message will restart the LFO from the beginning of its waveform.
CC# 73: Enable LFO Note Reset (0=Disabled, 64=Enabled) Enable or disable the restarting of the LFO from the beginning of its waveform when the unit
receives a MIDI Note On message. When changed, the value is stored to memory when the unit is powered down. Default is disabled
CC# 75: Delay Time Range Multiplier (0-31=Normal, 32-63= x2, 64- 95=x4, 96-128=x8.
CC# 76: MIDI Sync Enable (0=Disabled, 64=Enabled (default) Disable MIDI Sync of the Cluster Flux LFO using MIDI Real Time Clock messages. MIDI Sync is enabled each time the unit is powered up.
CC# 77 Enable MIDI Note mode (0=Disabled, 64=Enabled (default)- Enable/Disable MIDI notes setting the delay time of the unit. Each time the unit is powered on it defaults to enabled.
CC# 78 Enable MIDI Note Spillover mode (0=Disabled (default), 64=Enabled) Allows MIDI Notes to act as a momentary bypass switch. When enabled, a MIDI Note On message turns the effect on. A MIDI Note Off message stops audio from entering the effect, but does not disable monitoring of the effect signal. When combined with enough Feedback, this mode can be used to rhythmically “punch in” ringing comb filter or lo-fi delay effects.
CC# 79 Enable Mod Wheel to LFO Amount: Values 0-63 = Disabled, 64-127 = Enabled. Default setting is Enabled. This is a persistent setting; the current state is remembered on powerdown. When Mod Wheel to LFO Amount is Enabled, Mod Wheel CC messages will scale the LFO Amount parameter from zero (Mod Wheel at minimum) to 100% of the current LFO Amount knob position (Mod Wheel at maximum). Physically moving the LFO Amount knob will override any Mod Wheel scaling and set the LFO Amount parameter to the knob position value. Mod Wheel uses CC# 1 (MSB) /
CC# 33 (LSB)
CC# 80 Pitch Bend Amount: MIDI Pitch Bend messages can now be used to “bend” the Delay Time up and down by a programmable musical interval. Default Pitch Bend Amount is 3 Semitones. CC80 values and associated Pitch Bend Amounts are as follows:
CC80 VALUE PITCH BEND AMOUNT CC80 VALUE PITCH BEND AMOUNT
0-15 OFF 64-79 5 Semitones
16-31 2 Semitones 80-95 7 Semitones
32-47 3 Semitones 96-111 12 Semitones (1 Octave)
48-63 4 Semitones 112-127 24 Semitones (2 Octaves)

CC# 92 and CC# 93 - MIDI Tap Tempo: These CC messages allow you to tap a tempo into the Cluster Flux LFO using a remote MIDI controller. Handy for some devices like guitar multieffects, which may not send MIDI clock but which allow you to map a MIDI CC to a foot switch. CC92 is Tap Tempo Latching, CC93 is Tap Tempo Momentary. Program your MIDI controller to use CC92 if the controller sends only one CC value on pressing its switch and
does not send a CC on release (latching on/off behavior); program your MIDI controller to use CC93 if the controller sends one CC value when you press its switch and another CC value on release of the switch (momentary on/off behavior). The two Tap Tempo CCs behave the same as the Tap Tempo switch on the front panel; the only difference between the CCs is that CC92 counts every CC message of any value as a tap, where CC93 counts only values 64-127 as a tap.

MIDI NOTE MODES - The Cluster Flux delay time can be controlled from MIDI Note On messages. Tuned comb filter effects using the Flange or Chorus mode can be played from a keyboard or sequencer. When this mode is enabled the unit receives a MIDI “Note On” message. The “Note On” number determines the Delay time. The unit responds to MIDI note numbers 0 to 90. The MIDI Note On Velocity value is ignored.

MIDI CLOCK SYNC - The LFO can be synchronized to MIDI System Real-time Clock messages. These messages are 24 ppq messages that can be sent via MIDI computer sequencers or from drum machines. To enable the sending of these messages, consult the user manual for your MIDI device. When the Cluster Flux receives MIDI Clock messages, the LFO LED turns Yellow to indicate that it is synchronized to the MIDI Clock tempo. When the LFO is synchronized to a MIDI Clock tempo, the LFO can be set to divisions of this tempo. This is either from the front panel LFO Rate control, or from MIDI CC# 71.

The default MIDI Channel for the MF-108M is Channel one.
To change this, press and hold both the Tap Tempo and Bypass switches.
While holding both, send a MIDI Channel Mode message to the Cluster Flux
on the desired MIDI Channel. The MIDI LED will flash green indicating
that the message has been received. The MF-108M will now only receive
MIDI messages on that channel. The current MIDI Input channel is stored in
memory on power down.

Side note: Dip switches to set Right side output phase and wet or dry.
Be very careful that the setting matches a value in the manual. Don't just randomly flip the switches!

MF104M Delay Cheat Sheet:

MIDI CHANNEL
The default MIDI Channel for the MF-104M is Channel one. To change this,
press and hold both the TAP TEMPO and BYPASS switches. While holding
both, send a MIDI Channel mode message to the Analog Delay on the
desired MIDI channel. The TIME LED will flash yellow indicating that the
message has been received. The MF-104M will now only receive MIDI messages
on that channel. The current MIDI Input channel is stored in memory
on power down.

Note: MIDI Clock and System Exclusive messages are NOT Channel Mode messages,
and are received by the Analog Delay regardless of the current MIDI Input Channel.

MSB/LSB refers to 14-bit MIDI which uses a pair of CC
messages to obtain higher resolution control. Use the MSB CC numbers to
control these parameters at 7-bit resolution.

53-58 1/2 117-122 1/32
59-63 1/4 Dot 123-127 1/32 T

MIDI NOTE MODES
The MF-104M delay time can be controlled from MIDI Note On messages.
When this mode is enabled the unit receives a MIDI “Note On” message.
The “Note ON” number determines the Delay time. The unit responds to
MIDI note numbers 0 to 90
. The MIDI Note On Velocity value is ignored.

In Absolute mode each MIDI note corresponds to a delay time value. In
Relative mode, the delay base time is set by the Time knob, external CV,
or Time MIDI CC
. MIDI notes higher or lower than C4 will change the delay
time to a musical fraction or multiple of the base time (MIDI note 60/C4
does not change the delay time).

Ex: C3 doubles the delay time (and pitches down any audio in the delay line
by an octave) and C5 halves the delay time (pitching any audio in the delay
line up by an octave).

DELAY TIME MULTIPLIER
The Delay Time Multiplier multiplies the delay time by 2, 4 or 8 vastly extending
delay time. This feature is for obtaining unusual/lo-fi echo effects.
When the delay time is increased past the default maximum delay time
available on the front panel, the BBD Clock signal will be audible.

MIDI CLOCK SYNC
Both Delay Time and LFO Rate can be synchronized to MIDI System Realtime
Clock messages. These messages are 24 ppq messages that can be
sent via MIDI computer sequencers or from drum machines. To enable the
sending of these messages, consult the user manual for your MIDI device.
When the Analog Delay receives MIDI Clock messages, the corresponding
LED turns Orange to indicate that it is synchronized to the MIDI Clock tempo.

When the LFO is synchronized to a MIDI Clock tempo, the LFO can be
set to divisions of this tempo
. This is either from the front panel LFO Rate
control
, or from MIDI CC# 107. Delay Time MIDI sync is enabled via CC# 89.
Note: Delay Time MIDI Clock Sync overrides MIDI Note Mode. If the Delay Time is synchronized
to MIDI Clock, then time changes due to MIDI Note Mode are ignored.

No prob, I just grabbed that info from the manuals and edited it a little to post. I find that if I just look over those lists every once and a while it inspires me to keep trying new things. With these pedals, MIDI really expands the way you can use these. Then you add a computer and you can tell it exactly what to do! It is like having a team of people use 1 effect pedal.

My main interest was in the MIDI MuRF. I wanted different ways to play the filter bands and there was so much more after that!

Which CC# is the slew/portamento control for the 104M? I see it listed on the Clusterflux as CC#5, but i didn't catch that parameter on the Delay list.
