murf sync CV issues

Post by itaisim » Mon Jan 16, 2006 9:33 am

Hi,
i'm looking for a way to sync the Murf with Cubase.
I've read a few topics on this forum discussion it and i understand the only way to do this is to use CV instruction to the Murf.
since I don't have a Midi-CV converter i was wondering if anyone can tell me of a way to do this using Audio channels only.

any help will be appreciated,
Regards,
Itai.

I've wondered this myself...

Can you send something like the pulse of a kick drum to control the rate? What if it was brought up to line level with a DI box?

MIDI-CV

hi,

will a midi/cv convertor like the Kenton Pro Solo give me 100% good results - meaning 100% sync between a cubase clock and the murf clock so i can record depending on it?

I sampled the MF102's oscillator with my MPC at about 1Khz and then I sequenced very short notes. Then I send this audio signal to the tap Tempo input of the MURF and Voila! its synced.

You could also do this with Cubase if you have an extra audio output you could use to send the signal......Simply put very shorth notes around 1Khz or C6 synced with the grid, then send this audio signal through the external output into the MURF Tap Tempo.

Regards.

gigging the murf

I was just wondering...Live we use a motif for some backing tracks and I've been sending one of the extra outputs of the motif to the murf tap input. I've benn using a snare drum sound to set the tempo of the murf. Is there anyway that I'll hurt the murf by doing this? By the way, It work fantastically!

This is the first time I've seen this idea. Sounds very cool. I wonder if you could stair-step or arpegiate the delay time parameter on a 104 with that method.

Are you sampling the LFO out or the carrier out of the 102???

you can definitely arpeggiate the delay and end up with sequences that come purely from a single note drone.

this is what I did for that effect:

101 Audio OUT : 102 Audio IN*

102 Audio OUT : 104 Audio IN*

(*you could just run a synth in to the 104 instead, too.)

102 LFO square out/102 Carrier Out/CP-251 LFO/etc (it's all good, but two lfos is more than enough, and usually more rhythmic) : CP-251 CV Mixer IN

CV Mixer Positive Out : CP-251 Attenuator IN

CP-251 Attenuator OUT : 104 time in

Adjust lfos and mix for interesting results, adjust attenuator for control over the depth of the time modulation, and adjust the time knob on the 104 for pitch variation. use a mult and send some voltage the way of the 101's cutoff cv input, and you'll be staring down the barrel of a blackhole in no time :)

Anybody? Is the snare sample going to hurt the murf if its too loud? How loud could it really get on the out put of a keyboard really?
You can do that step type thing with the murf too by programming a particular rpattern with the sync click and using the step adapter. COol!

By the way, I just saw this on ebay...today ha

hi,
i bought now everything. the original moog tap pedal, the pattern step adapter and still no correct sync :-(
i´ve tried a roland cr-8000 trigger out signal and mentioned a timeshift after some patterns. the only thing is to move the speed knob, that the timing gets recalibrated. but´s it´s anoying to work for a whole song with it :-(((
any ideas?
cheers dirk :-)
