Bach tune in the style of Walter/Wendy Carlos

Post by UncleToad » Sat May 30, 2015 5:20 am

Hi everyone

I recently bought my Moog Sub 37, the first Moog product I have ever owned!
For many years I have loved the Switched on Bach sound so I thought I would have a try at creating a similar style piece.

It is Bach's Little Fugue in G made in the style of Walter/Wendy Carlos recorded and multi-tracked into Cubase 8. Then mastered using IK Multimedia's excellent T-RackS Grand with a touch of reverb from IK's CSR Hall module.

Your feedback would be most appreciated!
On the whole it is not too bad and it has the right kind of sound. I think the balance between some of the voices could be improved but generally I am quite pleased with it!

All the best

I sat at my desk this morning sipping coffee and watching hummingbirds feed outside my window as this lovely tune played in the background. A great start for my day. Thanks for doing this!

Nicely done! :) (clipping/distortion aside which I'm very sensitive to - too hot recording levels? too much limiter?). Anyway well done. :D

This is fantastic. Ive been listening to the original Switched On record lately and it's so cool to hear something so well done at such a later date, on such a newer moog. But still has that richness of sound. Nice work!

Very well done! You can be very proud of your debut recording.

Far better than the Ill-conceived Bach To Moog by Craig Leon, the Moog sound was just buried by the strings in that. The Moogs were reduced to a subtle accent.

He had a System 55 and whole rack of Slim Phatty's and you put him to shame with your Sub 37, BRAVO!

Thanks for all your kind comments! wow, I didn't expect that :D

I'll take a closer look at the recording and see if I can spot where any distortion might be coming in. It could be that I slightly over-drove the input channel on my ageing Tascam US-2000 audio interface.
Or I mastered it too hot in T-RackS.

Anyway, all comments were gratefully received.
Maybe I'll have a go at some Kraftwerk stuff next!

regards

Paul
