Voyager CV outs from Midi

Post by sw_hunt » Thu Jun 12, 2014 3:50 pm

I have an OS and am considering getting a Voyager Performer as well. Will midi into the Voyager appear at the CV outputs of the VX-351? Pitch, vel, pressure and gate? So for example, if I play my Kronos into the Voyager by midi then will the CV outputs of the Voyager/351 link to the CV inputs of the OS and control that too from the Kronos?

Thanks

I use the electric blue Voyager, it does not work.
the VX 351 sends only the Voyagers keys

Many thanks ebo. This seems quite a big design omission/error. I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to pass midi-generated CV to the CV outputs (I'm an electronics engineer). There must be plenty of customers wanting to use a Voyager as the heart of a modular system who want to control it from a bigger keyboard. Something to get right on Voyager 2???

the voyager doesn't work with 1v Octave,it's 0,985 V Oct.
this is not the right voltage for a Modular Synth .
I use the Taurus 2 (1v /oct)and 4x Freqbox ( 1V/oct)for my modular

You can do what you're looking for by adding the MP-201 foot pedal, I believe.

I can now answer my own question! Following some excellent and thorough advice from Andy Hughes at Moog, I have bought and tested a new Voyager Performer.

I CAN play midi from my Kronos into the Voyager and send CVs (pitch, gate, vel and touch) through the 351 to my Old School and it all works perfectly! I can therefore build quite a powerful modular synth from 6 VCOs, 4 envelopes, 4 filters etc. and play it all from the Kronos' 5 octave keyboard with velocity etc. Bl00dy marvellous.

Agreed, it's not exactly 1V/oct but I will use the CP-251 attenuator - and later I will build a simple gain stage so I don't tie up the 251 - to convert to/from exactly 1V/oct for use with other kit, e.g. Korg Odyssey when it's out :)

Thanks everyone.

I love Moog! :D :D :D

you can play ext key and the Voyager send CVs but only on that VX351 out which is connected.
if you chose the pitch out ,only pitch is working
no pitchwheel or modulation.
maybe you can mix them but
the VX 351 Pitchwheel out are in steps.

for my 2 Odysseys I use a Kenton Pro 2000 midi to cv
pitch ,pitchwheel ,modulation and Filter cv are working very good.
the Odyssey want 10v Gate and Trigger, the Pro 2000 does it.

Seems to work with mine. I can use the note, pitchbend and mod wheel outputs all at the same time. Maybe I don't get your point or they have been upgraded since you got yours?

Voyager software 3.5
which synth do you use with the VX351?

Korg Kronos -> Midi -> Voyager Performer 3.5 -> 531 -> Voyager Old School

I agree that pitch and pitchbend come out of separate sockets on the 351 and I need to mix them together in my CP-251 to use them together to control the Old School.
