…that you may have a mild obsession with delay pedals?

Being in a band and having most of my pedals spread around the room, I had hardly noticed how many I have until my new minifooger delay arrived yesterday.

So, here's the list:

I did own most of the ones out there, at one point or another, but I've managed to end up with only two (and I'm sure some of you might be shocked by this): A Boss DSD-2 (for its trigger in) and a Boss DD-7 (for its versatility). I know they're not as great as some of the more expensive ones (Moog and Strymon come to mind), but that leaves me more money to acquire new gear.

I've been lucky to have a love / hate relationship with a delay effect. I just don't jive with it and cant stand the sound most make - I too have owned at one time or another most on the market - Boss, Eventide, TC etc.

I do have two delays, 104Z & Strymon Timeline and I absolutely love them both. The ClusterFlux is my half delay since I use the higher times for gnarly goodness. Aside from that each time I think I need a new delay, I try it and feel dirty. These two and a half fix my itch every time I use them.

You're absolutely right EMwhite. I've owned the great Strymon El Capistan and the acceptable Roland RE-20, and they're both good digital emulation. But, like so many other things, there's nothing like the real thing.

I only have three delays but I know its obsession when I can conceptualize it being perfectly rational to drop almost three grand on a Binson Echorec clone.

This must be indicative of a problem?

I have an EHX Cathedral (isn't a delay, but does have a very useful delay section), and an Akai Headrush, which is AMAZING. 5 audio outs, looping, and two delay modes (one "normal" and the other being "tape emulation"). I had never heard of it until seeing it in the shop, so I asked to try it out and fell in love immediately.

Plus one: a convenient digital delay, quite editable, with tap-tempo, with the ability to have reverberated repetitions and to go infinite. It makes the Cathedral even better.

Delays hmmm...
Pedal-wise, for analog I have a couple of ancient ones; the Ibanez AD-9 delay and BOSS CE-2 chorus. For ancient analog rack mounts a DOD R-875 Stereo Flanger Doubler and a DOD R-880 Stereo Dual Delay. Then, naturally, there's the modern day MF-104M and MF-108M. But, for digital I had to have a pair of Eventide H9 pedals; they are CRAZY FUN!

That first delay pedal for me way back in the late 70's, was my first taste of what would come to be a fascination with signal processing for guitar that followed the wonder of my PAiA synthesizer. The first time I got enough models to hook up a Ring Modulator on that early synth floored me.

I hear ya brother, I've gone through a lot of delays but these are my favorites

1. Yamaha E1005 - love that preamp in front of the delay, still the warmest, smoothest delay I've come across (still looking to upgrade to an E1010)
2. DOD 680 delay - delays sound just like a copy of the source, crazy oscillation but short delay (have since upgraded to the dod 880 dual delay rack version)
3. Effectron 1024 - can't beat that metallic flanging, very versatile workhorse
4. RE-20 space echo pedal - thin and digital sounding but love that classic space echo oscillation.

I'm hoping to pick up the new minifooger soon. Would still like to pick up an old mxr green delay and try that one out. Recently I refurbished an old Univox EC-80 delay and tweaked the pot to give it a longer delay time, its' super dark and lo-fi but kinda cool. Also recently I refurbed a space echo 101 but it doesn't do the runaway oscillation when the intensity is pushed it just fades out so I'm trying to figure out how to tweak that.
