Voyager 1-2 Sync

Post by archer » Fri Dec 06, 2013 10:40 pm

When I turn on the 1-2 Sync on my Voyager, my 2nd oscillator automatically goes up one octave, even if both my 1st and 2nd oscillators are at the exact same foot when turning on the sync.

I contacted moog about and they said this is normal...but didn't explain why. I used to own an Old School model voyager and I don't remember it doing this. I have a friend who said this might be due to a bad ground at the AC outlet...but I'm not really sold on that.

Does anyone elses Voyagers do this? If yes, do you know why? Is there a reason?

Unless there is something that is offsetting the frequency of OSC 2, there is no reason that the frequency of that oscillator should double when switching the 1-2 Sync to ON.

Have you checked if there isn't a pot mapping sent to the frequency control of OSC 2 maybe ?

May I strongly suggest reading the Voyager User Manual about the Pot Mapping capabilities, in order to understand how it works... (page 58 of the online manual under section 5.4)
Pot Mapping is a virtual modulation matrix allowing up to four sources and destinations routings independent of the Mod busses. If the destination in one of the Pot Mapping is listed as OSC2 Frequency, that could be it possibly...?

I'm not sure, since it's been a long time since I had my Voyager...

I seem to have a similar question about my Voyager. Just bought one in mint condition yesterday. It has version 3.5 installed. When I have Osc 1 and 2 tuned together and turn on Sync 1-2 it behaves like it should: perfect tuning, same note from 1 and 2. But...: it seems that Osc 2's waveform is already changed as if Osc 2's frequency is raised a fourth (5 semitones), a radical change in Osc 2's sound. I suspect this is happening because if I now lower Osc 2's Frequency knob to -95 I get the original waveform back. Especially when set to a perfect Square it is obvious to hear that the waveform is changed before moving the Frequency knob of Osc 2. This is not how I expected the Voyager to work. I own a Moog Prodigy and have owned a Moog The Source. Both have Sync and didn't behave like my new Voyager. Does anybody recognize this? Any ideas? Thanks!
