phatten your phatty

Post by CleverConQueso » Sun Aug 11, 2013 11:18 pm

What are you folks using for delay or chorus to fatten up the sound of your phatty? I've got a multi tap setting on a kaoss pad that sounds pretty great but I would rather go with a more rugged solution like a foot pedal. I use my phatty for textures and the occasional lead in a rock band. I picked up a flashback X 4 and am tweaking it but I don't like that second bump you get when the delay kicks in. Particularly for pads and filter sweeps.
Thanks,
CCQ

Delay comes in many flavors, and two main types. Try an analog delay, like MXR Carbon Copy-though digital delays will generally offer more options.

I sometimes put my Sub Phatty through a Synth Tech Frequency shifter, the e560. It also has a ring mod and phase shifter and a morphing carrier wave. Pretty nice piece of gear! I also put it through a DIY delay pedal that has tap tempo and modulation; it's a guitar pedal but it works very nicely with regular output of the Sub.

I'm using it with EHX Deluxe Memory Boy, Cathedral and Stereo Electric Mistress. :)

It sounds great with all of them!!

The reverb sounds fantastic with soft leads.
The flanger/chorus sounds great with many leads.
The delay sounds wonderful with everything!

Deluxe Memory Boy here, too. I also like my TC Nova Delay. It's digital, but has a nice sound.

ive changed the caps that alter the delay time on the BBD. they reduce the amount of delay available, but it sounds warmer and when using heaps of feedback you get this amazing super warm space echo that feels a bit ethereal. i basically use it for that one sound ;)

the voodoovibe has a caps mod so you can change to the caps used in the original uni-vibe, the caps in the shinei RT18, or the original caps RM chose.

i dont actually own the originals, i just built clones.

cheers

Ok, thanks!
I'm just starting putting my hands in electronics so any little knowledge is good to take :)

I use a digital EHX #1 Echo and Kevin Lightner's analog chorus effect, which is an RS-101 chorus board in a rack mount case. :) Also, I like the MF-103 phaser for whooshing effects.

Thanks, team. Sounds like delay is quite common and seasoned to taste. Got it. And thanks for chiming in.

I was running my Slim Phatty through my Eventide PitchFactor and was getting nice chorus, vibrato, delay. Plus the pitch stuff. The Harpeggiator has a lot more arpeggiator setting than the onboard one. Plus Ice is cool for some ambient fun.

I use Guitar Rig Pro or Reaktor, I know it's wrong, but it works so well...
