A little nostalgia...

Post by Kevin Lightner » Mon Feb 25, 2013 4:10 pm

This 34 year old music video featuring Moog bass and a Devo-like arrangement came out 2 years before MTV even existed.

Here's the stereo version...
I had bought the 45 rpm vinyl of this. I wore it out on my old BSR turn table, with the full volume of my 15 watts (total) sound system back then  ! I was 14 then...

And then there's this, done a couple of years later:

I knew Ivan, the singer of Men Without Hats, because we had rented a practice space for our band next to his, in an old reconverted warehouse in Montreal. He had recorded this song using a Polymoog Synthesizer, if I remember right.

Thanks. The one you posted is better in both audio and video fidelity. :)

Ehhh I'm torn on Pop Muzik. It may had been heavy in synths but it is a d-d-disco song.

Meh, I don't know about that. It's a little too slow for dancing. It's not disco, it's Pop Muzik !

Those chopped-up Minis must have been heavy as hell ! Almost as heavy as a double neck guitar (remember those?) ! No wonder the singer is sweating so much...

Not only that, but those mod wheels must have been a real pain to control in this position...

Hahaha. Very "cheesy" video effects. And to say nothing of those Minis, played with both hands when it's a monophonic synth. And the drummer who doesn't play (synthesized drums, sequenced sound track)...
And, like MC would say, this is clearly a d-d-disco song...

P.S. But I still like it, nonetheless. I've got nothing against synthesizers disco. :D

Space is awesome. The Robot Rock vid always reminds of of that vid. Gotta love those Atari Video Music's on the TV's.

A couple years later Robin Scott (M) and Ryuichi Sakamoto (1/3rd of YMO) did a 5 or so tracks

YMO (dating back to 1978) had quite a Moog presence even on tour in Los Angeles, 1979
