Calibration: No Affect When Turning Trim Pots

Post by krismiller1982 » Wed Jan 09, 2013 6:27 pm

I was blessed enough to get ahold of the Voyager tech manuals, but I'm running into a brick wall here. Simply put, when instructed to turn the proper trims for their associated OSC to adjust pitch & scaling, absolutely nothing happens. Not even a slight increase or decrease in pitch. Example: "Adjust RT2 (Range) so Osc1 is E3." so I find RT2 while listening to OSC 1 with the gate open at E3 & turn it..... Nothing.... I'm at a stand still here fellas. Any insight as to what I'm doing wrong here? hope I get some feedback soon. Thanks!!!!

I'M A BONE HEAD!!!! I was adjusting the trimmers on the wrong board!!! Now I definitely have to go through & calibrate the whole thing. I was adjusting the trims on board 406P. Anybody know what RT1 RT2 RT3 & RT4 adjust on board 406P so i can go about recalibrating what I moved already? Man what an amature mistake!!!

Oh boy !

I'm sorry to say that, if someone doesn't know that all the oscillators adjustments are on board 11-404P (the easily recognizable big main analog board) inside a Voyager, and doesn't realize that board 11-406P is the touch panel, one should let a qualified tech do the job of calibrating it. Even if one got his hands on the Voyager Service Manual... In which RT1,2,3,4 on board 11-406P are surely described. Heck, they're even described on the board itself next to each trimpot (X and Y axis Hi and Low range, as seen in the photo below) !

This is most probably why the Voyager Service Manual is usually not made available to anyone by Moog Music, and rightly so...

Good luck anyway...

Now I'M IMPRESSED! I thought it was scary enough putting the VX-351 adapter into my Electric Blue. Do you do repairs Alain?

ps:  Destroyed By Technology is right ~ move over Geddy, that'll be me electrocuting myself with board 11-40 ~Bzzzzzzzt!

Having done successful repairs on many vintage synths (most of which I own, or owned) I probably could, but I don't. Sorry. I do, however, try to help others on forums like these to the best of my abilities and with my knowledge and experience of about 35 years of tinkering with electronics. And when I don't know something, or I'm not sure about it, I usually wait until a professional tech like Kevin Lightner comes along and usually learn another thing or two from him. :D

I fixed my voyager with moog's help... Couldnt stand having it shipped out for a month to get a single IC resoldered... Works like a champ now!

Just want to say that I got her all calibrated last night, including the touch pad. Thanks for all the help fellas. Andy & tech support was very helpful by sending the manuals.
