Little vs. Slim - differences?
Little vs. Slim - differences?
Beyond the obvious (keyboard, CV out), what are the real differences between the Little Phatty and Slim Phatty?
Thinking about adding one next year, but keyboard space is VERY limited.
I already have a pretty decent MIDI controller selection (Novation Impulse 49, Roland AX-Synth, Roland PCR-M30), so my thought is a rack-mounted Slim Phatty would fit my "requirements" (*okay, it's a "want" ~ this is just another expensive hobby, not a professional requirement!! )
Other than the items mentioned above -
Any feature / performance differences between the two?
Thanks!
Randy

Re: Little vs. Slim - differences?
I had a SP briefly before swapping it for a LP. There were 2 big differences I noticed. The warm-up time for the Slim was WAAY longer than the Little. It could take upwards of 45 minutes before the VCO's were stable. The little takes about 10-15 minutes. The other was the buttons. I really liked the buttons (feel & action) on the Slim. It was much easier to quickly navigate around. The LP needs more force. Although, the membrane on the LP feels more rugged than the SP. Other than that, they are identical.
Re: Little vs. Slim - differences?
Interesting issue on the warm-up / stabilization times between the two versions.
Wonder if there is that much difference in the power supplies between the two?
In any case - thanks for the info!

Re: Little vs. Slim - differences?
There are no CV outs available on the SP. Also, the warmup time difference is due to the fact that the SP is much smaller, therefore the power supply is closer to the boards. The power supply creates heat, and the oscillators are affected by that.misterpete wrote:what's the difference in regards to CV? - i thought they were identical that way...

Re: Little vs. Slim - differences?
Thanks! That's news to me...
The Slim has CV in for Gate, Pitch, Volume & Filter~ just like the Minitaur
I'm pretty sure the one Little Phatty that I played was exactly the same, but that was before I decided to buy my Electric Blue Voyager and I started to really get an understanding of what CV is all about.
Are all stock LPs configured like that or just your Amos signature edition and these new 'Solar' Phatty's from Sweetwater? ~ and how many and which CV outs do the LPs have exactly? Is it similar to the back of the Voyager, or the VX-351 expander?

Re: Little vs. Slim - differences?
Mine is a modified Stage 1 with Stage 2 side panel, giving me MIDI via USB. The new Solar Little Phatties, as well as other special edition LP's from other dealers, are available with CV outputs. The CV outs are Gate, Pitch, Volume env. CV, Filter env. CV, and Modulation Bus. Of course, for $200, you can send your LP to the factory and have CV outs added.misterpete wrote:Thanks! Re: Little vs. Slim - differences?
Excellent ~ thanks Voltor and a very Moogy Christmas!
I've been very curious about your "Amos" sig model LP, wondering if you have the only one in existence
- Verry cool news about the upgrade- if that option is available for the Slim, i'lll definitely go for it.. I have been looking forward to another trip to Asheville, anyway. i'll check the website now for details

Re: Little vs. Slim - differences?
Merry Christmas to you, as well. The only things that set my LP apart from other Stage 1's that have been upgraded with Stage 2 features are the blue button LED's Amos put in, the red green and yellow LED's I put in the wheels, and the coco bolo sides with brass inlay. Oh, and Amos signed the back panel. Whether or not I have the only one...well, I'm not sure. Mine is a very unique looking LP, but has the same functionality as a stock Stage 1 with USB.misterpete wrote:Excellent ~ thanks Voltor and a very Moogy Christmas!
