V3.0 question

Post by bosonob » Mon Aug 01, 2005 7:03 pm

Does anyone know or think that OS 3.0 will work with non hardware upgraded voyagers? I just wonder if the new hardware is required to get future software enhancement if the new hardware only deals with memory and midi.

Glad to see it's official now. I would think the OS updgrade would work without the hardware upgrade. Soo you can only scroll through 128 patches, at least you get the midi enhancements to use with older gear. That field upgrade price is well worth it though :) Can't wait till October!

I really don't see the point in this upgrade at that price. as i own a computer, 128 patches at once is more than enough. I'm not knocking moog, we all got to make money. I hope i'm proved wrong. joe

I would like to think so too, however being how it's a new version number (3.0 from 2.x) I think we're going to need confirmation from Moog on that.

I wonder if there are any other hardware enhancements on the new board besides just additional memory?

128 is ok if you're using the editor. If not it makes it a pain once you overwrite the bank with your patches. What are you going to do? Dump the patches, then if/when you think you need a sound from that bank re-load it back? Not to mention you'd have to backup the bank you were currently working on before doing this or else you'd lose all your work.

Plus the upgrade makes sense for stage performers.

I may be in the minority here, but here's what I look forward to
Of the 896 user accessible presets, 704 come pre-loaded with patches ...

Those musicians that need to have more presets (I mean patches not made them self) might welcome thes extra storage banks. Remember the Access Virrus also changed the number of presets (but due to being digital without a hardware change). There are musicians that rather prefer to scroll through a few hundreds of presets rather then actually doing a new sound on the fly. Or select the actual needed sounds and store them in the 128 patch memory slots we all have right now. I can't think of a situation where having 128 sounds available at a time is not enough for playing live or a jam session. And doing 128 own sounds is not easy, if you really do unique sounds and not only editing each sounds and store it into a new memory slot.

And think off all those Moog performers, that don't have a computer connected to their set up at all. Some only use the computer to do backups and to dump new siftware into the Voyager. I am one of those most of the times.

I think, there is a market for the memory extention. And if we don't need this hardware upgrade, we are not forced to get it. The OS 3.0 will work on a non upgraded Voyager for sure!

Tell me about it :D That's why before the editor (and even with it) I reserve slots 121-128 for patch creation & progress. 120 is my default starting patch. I think I spend too much time creating sounds than actually recording them...

Recording, what is this? :P
Since I bought the Voyager (actually traded it 1:1 for an Alesis A6) I have not recorded a single not yet.
But I don't call me a musician. I am a synth freak.

slightly confused

Post by zaque » Sun Aug 07, 2005 3:43 pm

i've read through this thread and i'm slightly confused.

i ordered an rme a few weeks ago and it has yet to arrive. apparently it's still sitting in NC fully tested and waiting for a knob shipment before it can be boxed up. i am curious to know what OS version and board i should expect to come with it? 2.6? 3.0?

i have seen the version numbers 2.6 and 3.0 tossed around. sounds like 2.6 is for the rme only and is already available. does it include similar features to 3.0? if moog is currently upgrading users to 3.0 i am assuming that my new unit should just come with the upgrade - i'll be pretty annoyed if it gets here and i have to send it back for an upgrade or wait a few months to spend another $225. :-(

is anybody from moog around that may be able to explain when newly ordered products will have this upgrade?

Zach -

To be on the safe side, I'd suggest you call Moog Music and find out. Since they haven't yet shipped your RME, it should have the upgrade included, IMHO.

Agreed. Furthermore, if its not installed in your one, you could also suggest to the sellers that you might choose to cancel your order and re-order elsewhere. v3's are currently shipping so it just a case of ensuring your supplier is getting a v3.

Good luck dude..

Anyone notice the new Voyagers w/v3.0 price went up $200 with this upgrade?
Novamusik now sells the RME for $2195.00 up from $1995.00, so it
is not a free upgrade on the new units.

It looks to me like they raised the price of the RME on the Moog site by $200 as well. I don't quite understand why they did a price increase on a product that they only released a couple of months ago. The memory cost for holding more presets couldn't be more than a few dollars. I was going to buy one a RME but now that the street price is over $2000, I'll pass.
