Back to Crowing! Minitaur <-- USB *fixed*

Post by starkaudio » Thu Aug 30, 2012 1:54 pm

Just picked up my *first* piece of Moog hardware. It feels great!

I have to wait till 5pm to play it at any significant volume.

Love how it came with earplugs!

Edit:

Maybe I'm cursed. It would seem that after about 15 minutes of being powered on, the USB connection starts dropping and knobs become unresponsive. It seems thermal in nature, as cycling the power doesn't solve it immediately and I have to let it cool for a few minutes, but it happens again shortly being powered back on (a few minutes.) If I let it cool completely (couple hours) it runs again but only for about 15 minutes.

When I just use standard midi cables there is no issue after several hours of performance. Something about the USB system it would seem. I'm loathe to send off something I *just* got for repairs.

Sound familiar?

I bet it won't be your last piece of Moog hardware.
Enjoy it!

No it won't but I do hope my voyager doesn't exhibit the same bad USB midi behavior.

There is no USB on the Voyager. And I am not missing it. I just use MIDI for SysEx storage of patch data. For playing there is a keyboard. And for sound design there is a good hardware interface full of knobs.

Update:

Moog support was excellent. Even though my Minitaur is relatively recent, and it claimed to already have firmware 1.0.7 on it, I was instructed to update it anyway, which has fixed all the issues I was having. Woohoo!

Thank you Amos and Perry!
