hi,
thought you might find this interesting. first try of my new kommander (http://www.koma-elektronik.com/products/kommander/). cv 1 is controlling ring mod's frequency (carrier out into the mixer, mostly in the left channel), cv 2 is controlling moog's freqbox's frequency (mostly in the right channel). cp-251, mf-105, and spring reverb are also involved. delay from ableton. soundcloud link below:

Hi there,
If you plugged one kommander output in to carrier frequency and the other into mix without any other signal coming in, do you get a theremin?

Well, you don't need to use the Mix control, as you'll only be using Carrier Out and not Audio Out. Or you could use the Carrier Out (send it to the mixer), and feed the MF-102 MF-107's output (like I did), so as to use the Ring Mod as an oscillator and a modulator at the same time.Roy wrote:If you plugged one kommander output in to carrier frequency and the other into mix without any other signal coming in, do you get a theremin?
So yes - the Kommander can be used as a basic theremin-style controller.

Also, one could plug one of Kommander's CV outputs into CP-251's Multiple, and then use the same signal for frequency of two oscillators (e.g. tuned to a fifth), and play a power chord with one guesture/hand.
If you'd like me to try something – let me know. I've got CP-251, MF-105, MF-102, and MF-107 to choose from.
Cheers,
Lukasz

I think you should be able to control the volume of the carrier by using the mix, therby getting theremin style pitch and volume control. Nothing plugged in to input. This is based on the use of the MF102 as a VCA as per the Lord of the Ring Mod.Well, you don't need to use the Mix control, as you'll only be using Carrier Out and not Audio Out. Geez, I thought I tried every possible iteration of the Lord of the Ring Mod VCA trick, but never actually thought of that. Can't wait to try, though I don't see how the Mix would control volume of the Carrier Out…Roy wrote:I think you should be able to control the volume of the carrier by using the mix, therby getting theremin style pitch and volume control. Anyway, thanks for your comment – I'll report my findings soon.

Checked it last night – didn't work. As I expected, the Mix control had no effect whatsoever on the signal from the Carrier Out.Roy wrote:I think you should be able to control the volume of the carrier by using the mix, therby getting theremin style pitch and volume control. I made some more demos of the Kommander + MF's. Well, not demos per se, but short clips showing it's capabilities and uses. Here they are:
http://soundcloud.com/shortsleeves/blog ... lipca-2012
http://soundcloud.com/shortsleeves/blog ... lipca-2012 (This one's very simple - the Kommander controls Murf's Envelope and Rate. Only audio source is noise from Moog CP-251.)
http://soundcloud.com/shortsleeves/blog ... lipca-2012 (The Kommander controls Freqbox's frequency and FM. Rhythmic pattern is from Ring Mod used as a tremolo. Reverb and delay from Ableton.)

Lukasz
