Voyager OS CV control from Little Phatty

Post by Synthtron » Fri Jun 22, 2012 5:53 pm

I have read several previous posts of others trying to control their Voyager OS via a Little Phatty with CV outs with not much luck as far as accurate tracking.
I have tried to control my Voyager Old School from my Phatty's CV outs (gate and pitch) and seems I can only get about an octave to track well but it is in a higher octave. I am using the CP-251 to get the range I have by using one attenuator before the Phatty's CV goes into the Voyager OS. I believe I only had a 3 note tracking range without the CP-251. Any suggestion to improve keyboard tracking?

I controlled my friend's Phatty (formerly mine) with my VOS and had no issues with tracking, though I did have to manually tune the Phatty to the Voyager. 5 oscillators is an awesome experience to behold.

Why do you want to control the Voyager with the Phatty? Voyager has a nicer feeling keyboard so I thought it should be the other way around. Good luck anyway!

Hey, I actually had similar results using the Voyager OS as a controller (limited keyboard tracking range like only 4 or five notes in tune).
The voyager OS does not have an arpeggiator so I was looking to use the Phatty's arp to trigger the Voyager OS.
I need to figure out how to get more accurate tuning across the keys with either synth as a master really.

The LP tracks at 0.97V. Could this be part of the tracking issue with the OS? I'm thinking the OS tracks at 1V. So, it might need attenuating. Just a thought.

I was messing with it a bit more and I guess I can get Osc 2 and 3 on the Voyager OS to get pretty much close in tune by adjusting their Freq but Osc 1 still off. I have tried to use the attenuators from the CP-251 but no luck. I will keep messing with it cause I'd like to use all three Osc if possible from the Voyager. The arpeggiator does transmit from the Little Phatty to Voyager which is fun.

I got the two playing now! Part of my problem I think was not allowing more time for the Phatty to warm up longer. I do have to tune the Voyager using the fine tune knob to match the Phatty's pitch (in tune with the rest of my gear) but I am now using all three Osc from the Voager OS along with the Little Phatty's two Osc.

Actually I noticed that if I hit a certain key on the Voyager I can get certain ranges to track well in tune (about a two octave range at most). If I hit a different key then it gets messed up and out of tune. This was messing me up and I did not realize it. Now I know to take that into consideration too.
I am setting this up to do recording with and now using MIDI to control the Voyager Old school through the Little Phatty now for sequences with multiple OSC.
